Book Title: ALL THAT GLITTERS ISN’T OLD

Character Name: Whitney Dagner

How would you describe your family or your childhood?

Oh, my family. Well, we’re an odd assortment of totally dependable and completely not around. I kind of had my parents when I was older, but they chose to leave me and my brother with my grandparents when we were still pretty young. We don’t talk about that very much.

What was your greatest talent?

My greatest talent I think has been adaptability. I see the situation and do my best to be whatever is necessary to survive and preferably thrive.

Significant other?

Now that would be Felix on most days. He and I got a rocky start but we’re working on things. My can, Whiskers, would say it was definitely her. We’ll let her think that so there are no issues!

Biggest challenge in relationships?

Trusting people to stay. Whew, you are asking the hard questions, aren’t you?

Where do you live?

The beautiful and often visited Catalina Island off the coast of California.

Do you have any enemies?

I wouldn’t call them enemies, but after three murder mysteries I can definitely say not everyone is a fan of mine.

How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place?

I love our little island and am so happy I decided to come out of the corporate world and settle where I belong. I adore tourists for their patronage and even some of their antics, but they also like to bring the mischief it seems.

Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?

Back to the reference of my chonky cat, Whiskers. She probably doesn’t see herself as a pet but I can very much tell she’s not exactly earning her keep or helping with the bills, so yeah, she’s a pet.

What do you do for a living?

I help run my family’s glass bottom boat company and a gift shop on the island. 20% off today if you buy and paint a rock!

Greatest disappointment?

Ohhhh, that’s going to be my parents, though again we don’t talk about that much even though they’re on my mind a lot. Thank goodness for Pops and Goldy. They’re quite the pair, and Goldy is the grandmother who does not like to be called that, but they’ve always been my biggest supporters and for that I love them.

Greatest source of joy?

Whiskers is not going to allow any answer but her. This one I’ll give to her just to keep the peace.

What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?

Drive around in golf carts, try to think up new ways to move merchandise, eat ice cream cones with lots of sprinkles.

What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?

Goodness! Well, I guess it would be that I waited longer than I should have to move back, and that I still wish things had been different with my mom and dad. But I’m making my own life. And with my best friend Maribel, my most of the time boyfriend Felix, and my family, it’s enough.

What keeps you awake at night?

Whiskers if I don’t feed her on time or offer the proper amount of treats she thinks she deserves.

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

Why Goldy is insisting I defend someone I don’t know form the authorities and figure out who really killed Jericho. I am not made for this kind of thing and would be happy to leave it to the cops. But when Goldy asks, I try really hard to answer, even if I’m not sure what I’m doing.

Is there something that you need or want that you don’t have? For yourself or for someone important to you?

A real car? Almost everyone drives a golf cart on the island and while they are certainly fun, and yes you can squeal the tires when you stop if you hit the brakes hard enough, sometimes a real car would be awesome.

Why don’t you have it? What is in the way?

Please see above!

ALL THAT GLITTERS ISN'T OLD by Gabby Allan

Whit and Whiskers

All That Glitters Isn't Old

The latest in the delightful cozy mystery series set off the coast of California—perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory and Abby Collette.

When she’s not piloting a glass bottom boat, showing the sights to tourists, Whit sells seashells by the seashore—among many other sea and sand souvenirs—to help keep her family shop, Nautically Yours, afloat. It’s a far cry from her corporate climbing ladder life in Los Angeles, but Whit and her frisky feline, Whiskers, love calling Catalina home and being close to family. Especially Whit’s grandmother Goldy, a fun and feisty senior who always marched to the beat of a different drum.

In her youth, Goldy was an item with a Catalina catch named Darren. But it was actually a ruse to fool Darren’s parents who wouldn’t have accepted his preference for men. Eventually, he left the island and chose the life—and life-partner—he wanted for himself. Back in town for his mother’s funeral, Darren takes the opportunity to heal his open wounds, and settle some scores.

In a surprise to the residents, Darren produced a documentary about the history of Catalina, and has arranged a premiere screening in the local theater. But his film career is cut short when his partner’s
dead body is discovered the night before the opening. Rumor swirl about Darren's past, along with is partner's—and the things they’ve done—giving a lot of folks a lot of motives. Now, it's up to Whit and her boyfriend policeman to catch a killer, and uncover just how much Grandma Goldy knows about the back door deals tied to Darren’s past…
