Mystery Cozy | Mystery

Once again Hayley finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation after her boss signs her up to judge a reality cooking show. To make it even worse, Hayley also has a motive for killing the man.

Sam Rizzoli is a big business owner on Key West and Hayley just gave one of his restaurants a negative review. Sam tries to have her fired first. When that fails, he makes it clear that he is going to try and get her fired from judging the contest.

When Rizzoli's body is found hanging from his boat dresssed in drag, Hayley will learn more about cross dressers than she ever suspected. There is a bar devoted to men who dress up like women and one of the contestants works there.

With all that going on, Hayley's budding relationship with Nathan Bradford comes to a stumbling halt when his ex-wife shows up at the police station.

As the police eliminate suspects and develop new leads, one of the homeless men that Hayley is friends with becomes a person of interest. Despite Nathan's warnings, Hayley can't let them accuse an innocent man.

The third book in the Key West Food Critic series, I find myself enjoying each book more. The characters are becoming more familiar and seem more complete. Ms. Burdette has an easy writing style which keeps the reader interested without going into too much graphic detail. While I was saddened by the disruption of Hayley's and Nathan's possible relationship, it will be interesting to see what happens in Hayley's future. The food descriptions will keep you salivating. Hayley's battle with local chefs and her ability to get in over her head will keep you amused.

SUMMARY

Hayley Snow loves her job as the food critic for Key Zest magazine, tasting the offerings from Key West’s most innovative restaurants. She’d rate her life four stars, until she’s forced into the spotlight…and another murder investigation. Hoping for some good publicity, Hayley’s boss signs her up to help judge the Key West Topped Chef contest. Stakes are high as the winner could be the next cooking-show superstar. Hayley shows up for the filming nervous but excited, until she sees who’s on the judging panel with her: Sam Rizzoli, big shot businessman—and owner of the restaurant she just panned in her first negative review.

When Rizzoli turns up dead, the police assume his killer is one of his business rivals. But Hayley wonders whether someone is taking the contest a little too seriously. With the police following the wrong recipe, it’s up to Hayley to find the killer before she’s eliminated from the show… permanently.
