Spring Fling Story

I live in the middle of the woods and every spring we look out for our black bears to come out from winter. Last Thursday the first one made his or her appearance so now the bird feeders goes in at night or whenever we are away from home. Last year we had five around here 2 males and mama and two cubs which are so cute but as bad as can be. The year before we had a mama and three cubs and that mama bear had her paws full. The cubs were as bad as kids and would do things just to have mama growl at them. We enjoy the bears but we have to be on the look out constantly when outside as they come right to our porch. We have strings of lights all around the trees so we can see if any is lurking around when we venture out of doors or when I come home from work. The year the mama and three cubs were here..mama sat right in our yard eating apples she found in the woods while her cubs romped around the trees.

Besides black bear we have a lot of deer and their young to enjoy as well as a few comes right up to you and will let you pet them. I love it here and we have tons of beautiful birds and ducks around. We have a stream along the yard and baby ducks entertain us all summer. There is two pairs of adults here already so that will mean more duck funnies to watch later in the season. We get to feed them and the little ones comes right up to us every year.

After living here in the woods..I can not imagine ever going back to a town to live. I was born in a town and my first night living in the country was a nightmare for my country bred husband. That is a story in itself as I constantly was waking him because I heard a noise outside. He finally told me to get to sleep and stop listening for noises. ha ha

I hope you enjoy this story..it's not one I made up but I felt it was more interesting to write about a true event that goes on around my house every summer. susan Leech
