Mystery | Holiday | Mystery Cozy

From New York Times bestselling author Cleo Coyle comes an enchanting new entry in her "satisfyingly rich" Coffeehouse Mystery series.

Coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi and her merry band of baristas give their coffee truck a ""Jack and the Beanstalk"" makeover for a Fairy Tale Festival in New York's Central Park. Clare’s coffee hunter ex-husband contributes a bag of African beans with alleged magical properties, and his octogenarian mother entertains customers with readings of the grinds. Clare remains skeptical about Matt's ""magic"" beans, until she receives a vision that helps her find a young model’s body in the park's woods.

The police dismiss “sleeping beauty” as the victim of a drug overdose, but Clare uncovers evidence that points to a list of suspects—from a New York Giant to quite a few wicked witches—and a cold case murder that reaches back to the Cold War.

Now Clare is really in the woods with a dangerous predator on her heels and an investigation that leads from a secret Prince Charming Club right back to her own NYPD detective boyfriend. If she doesn't solve this mystery, those magic beans predict an unhappy ending.

Includes wicked good recipes!

Re: Once Upon a Grind

My favorite is Cinderella. I always rooted for her and for
the shoe to fit!

The Nightmare Before Christmas - Sally is really a princess in
a patchwork dress.
(
Tava H 4:21am December 6, 2014)

Mine is Cinderella too. I remember the last birthday I had with my dad they had Cinderella put on the cake so I think of him when I see Cinderella.

Sleeping Beauty would have to be my favorite.
(
Ashley C 12:30pm December 6, 2014)

I always loved Cinderella. I suppose because the hardworking
kindhearted gal gets her prince.

G. Bisbjerg 3:23pm December 6, 2014)

Beauty & Beast.... Not only does Beauty/Belle value
family & knowledge more than fashion, but she also looks
beyond the appearance of the Beast to see the goodness
beneath his awkward and scary exterior. And that the
Beast, for all that he knows he will never find release
from his curse without Belle's love, never forces himself
on her and always takes her "no" as "no."

(
Ginger Hinson 2:22am December 7, 2014)

When I try to think back to Fairy Tales, the one that I like
would have to be Sleeping Beauty. Not only is it slightly
scary, but it's healthy ( she gets to eat part of an apple
), and then gets woken up by a kiss from her Prince
Charming. Who else wouldn't LOVE to be woken up by a kiss
from their Prince Charming after falling asleep?? Even
though you said that you snore, I don't think the Prince
would mind. He'd still find you beautiful!! Your latest
book sounds like your best book yet, as well as your
recipes. You've really outdone yourself on the recipes this
time, and I think that they would almost be worth the reason
to get your book!! Personally, I love the story, and the
recipes would be a bonus!! The cover to your book is
terrific, as always!! Have a wonderful Christmas, and all
the best in the New Year!!

My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. She learns to see people for who they are, not what they look like. Would we all be so lucky!

It is Cinderella. She had to do all the housework to make everybody else happy and contented and yet still was able to find time to dance at the ball. Her prince came looking for her and low and behold, there she was drinking coffee and baking cookies. What more could anyone ask for with a happily ever after. Thanks for the recipes and have a wonderful Holiday with you and yours.

I love all of the fairy tales but Rapunzel is my favorite
(
Darlene Carroll 1:31pm December 9, 2014)

i know it's not a "traditional" fairy tale but to be
honest, I would go with Shrek. It has the same aspects of a

I love little red riding hood. I vividly remember my dad sitting on the side of

story.
(
Victoria Fisher 10:26pm December 9, 2014)

My favorite has always been Cinderella. I was happy when

(
Judy Dee 11:07pm December 9, 2014)

Not quite a fairy tale, but I grew up reading The Princess and the Goblin (and its sequel, The Princess and Curdie) by George MacDonald. No fairies, but plenty of magic!
(
Barb Wiesmann 11:08pm December 9, 2014)

I grew up in Germany and of course the big thing was Grims fairytales. I
loved Hanzel and Gretel, and snow white and rose red. Snow White and
Rose Red is nothing like the snow white that we know and love, but most of
the stories were scary. I also loved Heidi which is not a fairytale but I
believe that was the very first book I read.
(
Gabi Eagon 11:17pm December 9, 2014)

Mulan is our favorite family fairy tale! She's powerful, pretty, and brave. She fights for what she wants and inspires others.
(
Sally Chong 11:17pm December 9, 2014)

Cinderella because this was the first fairy tale I heard as a little girl. Plus, I
just love those little mice that help her do her chores .

Greetings, everyone! It's Cleo here again, dropping back to
say that I'm continuing to enjoy learning what fairy tales
are you favorites--and even *why* they are. As a writer, I
find this especially fascinating, and I appreciate your
taking the time to tell me. I wish you all the best of luck
in the drawing--and for the New Year. May your holidays be
bright!

Shelley Summers 12:05pm December 10, 2014)

I would have say Cinderella. It is nice to see someone who
very much deserves a happy ending to get one. It is not an
easy thing to take care of everyone else, wheather it be your
elderly parent or parents. But in doing so it is very easy to
forget to takecare of yourself and learn to once in a while
treat yourself to a little magic.
(
Sheryl Field 12:06pm December 10, 2014)

I would have said my favorite fairy tale is The Little Mermaid. However, after watching Maleficent I have a new favorite. To see how she was before, is quite the tale. Congrats on the release Cleo!
(
Christine Arcidiacono 12:15pm December 10, 2014)

Cinderella would be my favorite. I've always believed any thing is possible
and am a romantic at heart. Probably also helps that my name is Cindy!
(
Cindy Davis 12:51pm December 10, 2014)

I am not sure if it qualifies as a fairy tale, but my favorite is the Princess Bride. Fairy tale and satire in one.
(
Cheryl Myrick 12:54pm December 10, 2014)

My favorite fairytale is Beauty and The Beast because it demonstrates that one may fall in love based of how someone truly is on the inside, and not caring how they look physically. This fairy tale has depth, and relates the stark truth about true beauty.

My favorite fairy tale is one not widely known but it's in a most wonderful book (The Fairy Tale Book) that I've had since I was a kid. The illustrations are incredible, both black and white and color. It was published and copyrighted by Golden Press back in 1958. It has traditional stories from all over the world.

The fairy tale is "The Wild Swans" by Hans Christian Anderson. I like it because of the devotion and love siblings have for one another.

I am a Disney fan.. I love all of them.. My fav is Lady
and The Tramp. I love the 7 dwarfs with, of course, Dopey
as the best one. There is good in all of the fairy tales
and there is also the bad.. I love the way they have been
remade into Once Upon a Time TV show. It gives new
dimension to the characters and stories. Here's wishing
you a Very Happy Holiday.
(
Tina Ullrich 10:55pm December 10, 2014)

My favorite Fairy Tales are 'Hansel and Gretel' and 'The Shoemaker and The Elves'. I liked the moral of the story of the Shoemaker, which was the elves were helping him & he prospered. So in turn, he & his wife made clothes for them because they had none. This made them happy, they donned the clothes, & never did a cobbler's job again, but the cobbler still prospered. With Hanzel & Gretel, I always worried about them being lost & alone in the woods. When I would hear the story, I would say "don't go to the cottage, don't go to the cottage!" But did they ever listen to me? Not once! When I was older & lived in Germany, I had many opportunities to walk in the woods. I would think of those 2 little ones & saw how easy it was to get lost. Those woods could get dark! But they were beautiful all the same.

Like many other people, my daughter who is now a mother of her own, loved Cinderella. Now with two daughters of her own, and knowing how much they love all of the princesses, I would still say Cinderella is a favorite. My grandfather from Germany/Austria used to tell us a scary fair tale about a wolf but I have forgotten it, but it sure did make me afraid at the time. Not the kind of thing that I want for my grandkids now. Thank you for the wonderful contest Cleo. As you know, your Coffeehouse series is my first cozy series that got me started on cozies full time and I have loved each book since day 1. Thank you for everything and wishing you the very very very best for 2015.

I like The Princess and the Pea. It is funny and the prince
and his intended outsmart the snobbish Queen. (Love Carol
Burnett's rendition of the story)

I like the original Fairy Tales before they were made more civilized. I enjoyed Little Red Riding Hood and the saving of her grandmother by cutting open the Big Bad Wolf. Children love to be scared just a bit.

I thought of one that I almost forgot about for personal
reasons. That would have to be Cinderella. It reminded me
about when I was growing up, being the youngest of 3
Sisters, and of course, always being picked on. Our Mom was
on the strict side, and we were always at her side, helping
her clean the house, so seeing Cinderella with the bucket
and scrub brush brought back unpleasant memories. Anyway,
in the end, we all get a bit of retribution, I suppose.
That's why I had some time to think about it, instead of
just making a snap decision. I hope you have a wonderful
Christmas, and a very Happy New Year!!

My favorite fairytale is East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon. It's got a ton of
other fairy tale elements, but is a classic example of the heroine saving herself
(and wasn't Christianized by Hans Christian Anderson, or bastardized by the
Victorians).

It's hard to pick one favorite. Definitely Jack & the bean stalk because I always wanted a golden egg, Snow White because she had not just one but seven guys adoring her, Cinderella because she lost the battles but won the war and Hansel & Gretel, the perfect horror story for kids. I remember thinking 'no, don't go in there!' which is the classic thought for all scary stories.

I love them all but my very favorite is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! Who wouldn't love the Dwarfs? I assign their names to friends and acquaintances who may remind me of one of them! Fun stuff!
