So Austin Rivers. Oh Austin. What a fun, fun hero to write. I loved being in his
head while writing CHANGING HIS GAME as he figured his life out through the
course of this book.
There were a couple of things I kept in mind when writing Austin. Sure, he knew
what he liked in bed, and he’s attractive to boot, but his confidence in social
situations is not great. He doesn’t always do well with emotions because they
aren’t qualitative. They are variable and ever-changing and for someone like
Austin, a tech geek, emotions are a scary thing.
“I’m taking you to dinner. I thought… I’m not sure I’ve made such a good
impression so far. And you deserve to be treated well.” He cleared his throat.
“Very well.”
She blinked at him as his words sank in. She turned to face the counter and
began to fill the vase with water from her sink. She wished she could stick her
face under the cool stream because she was burning up already. After the vase
was full, she set it down and slipped the bouquet inside. “You don’t have to do
that. I’m fine with Sour Patch Kids and a movie.”
When she turned back around, he looked confused, uncertain. She suppressed a
smile. He was a computer guy, a video game nerd. She was sure he liked
everything organized, compartmentalized. He would have planned this date
because, in his mind, that’s what a man did—buy a woman dinner. Wine and dine her.
And she’d just thrown him for a loop.
She walked toward him and laid a hand on his forearm. She placed a kiss on his
chin, the only place she could reach. “This is nice, Austin. I’d love dinner.”
That seemed to satisfy him. His face lightened, and he nodded. Then he cocked
his elbow for her to take his arm. “Then we should get going. I have reservations.”
At first, he was attracted to Marley and he thought that was all there’d be, but
then he began to learn more about her, and he realized he was actually falling
for her, and not just what they did in bed.
In bed, he’s alpha all the way, but out of bed… he’s a quiet guy. Unassuming.
Sure, he’s built an empire but he’s not the face of any of his businesses,
preferring to remain behind the scenes. It’s not until Marley that he realized
he’d like to change his game… and step up for the woman he loves.
He controls the game, but she's rewriting all the rules...
Marley Lake is no stranger to awkwardness, but getting caught watching a dirty
GIF by the company's hot new IT guy exceeds even her standards. That is, until
she realizes he's as turned on by it as she is. But with a big promotion on the
line, she refuses to let her current dry spell be her downfall. Maybe.
Austin Rivers has no business lusting after the irresistible editor of Gamers
Magazine. He's a secret partner in the business-and technically Marley's boss.
One look at that GIF, though, and he's ready to install a whole lot more than
just software...as long as she never finds out who he really is.
But reality's not as virtual as it seems, and when Austin's identity jeopardizes
Marley's promotion, he has to change his game or risk losing the only woman with
the cheat code to his heart.
