Re: The Soldier (11:36pm June 2, 2011):

I agree that it is irresistable to imagine you are a character in a book. How else can you live a different life without aging too much. When I was a child and was mad at one of my siblings I would imagine what it would be like to be an only child. No one to share my room with, or fight with. I could be alone. Later I thought about it and realized I would be alone when I didn't want to be. No one to share the good and the bad with. Family: you hate them and you love them, you're stuck with them but they stick by you.

Re: Fragment (11:17am January 7, 2010):

What is the problem with the Fresh Fiction website today? I'm trying to read the column and the text keeps changing width. It's flickering the way the ads for the books flicker.

Re: The Cowboy From Christmas Past (1:40am November 1, 2009):

You aren't the only one who has cooked a turkey with the giblets still inside. One of my aunts did the same thing one holiday. Have you ever eaten a turkey cooked entirely breast side down? Been there, done that. Some people should never cook a turkey, ever.

Re: Beloved Vampire (1:25pm August 17, 2009):

By the way,loved Angel.

Re: Beloved Vampire (1:23pm August 17, 2009):

How does a vampire tell the difference between evil or diseased blood and clean blood?
As to whining, what vamp wouldn't be depressed or even suicidal at some point? Normal life isn't a continual joyride. Life is full of ups and downs.
Also not everyone is the most beautiful or handsome. Why do vampires all seem to be beautiful or handsome?
And even though they can live a long time aren't there any vamps that are dumb as a post or poor? Ugly, dumb, and poor isn't sexy but is every vamp sexy?
If vampire society is shown as a whole then all of it should be shown not just the glitz. Where there is only a few vamps in a story then sexy is in. Readers want a seemingly realistic view in their fiction because otherwise it falls apart and that writer goes on the reader's not-to-be-read-again list.
That's my criteria for vampire (and other) fiction.

Re: Mackenzie's Legacy (1:08am August 1, 2009):

I read series fiction to follow a character or characters.Sometimes I wonder what happened to them after the book(s) is over. Some books have epilogs. One epilog I read took the future of the characters too far.It gave death dates. When you like the characters you don't want to know that.Maybe it's the Happily Ever After concept. You want to believe they go on forever. No one wants the story to end with And Then They Died.

Re: A Stroke of Magic (2:23am July 8, 2009):

A quirky character? Hercule Poirot. My own quirks fluctuate depending on the situation and the observer.

Re: The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society (1:14am July 8, 2009):

A book?Try several.Three that come to mind are The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie, The Mirror of Her Dreams by Stephen R. Donaldson, and Far Slayer's Story by Fred Saberhagen. There are other books but these are the ones that annoyed and frustrated me the most. All these books are by authors who had previously been published and should have been better. Authors who don't improve as they continue to publish should find a different job or better editors. There would probably be fewer disappointed readers.

Re: Wild Heart (6:56pm June 29, 2009):

Did you have any input on the blurb? I once read one that was wrong about a character's name and about the character. Have you finished your next book?

Re: The Texas Twins (12:29pm June 25, 2009):

Patience and sequels don't always go together, especially if you don't know how many books there are in a series.Even if there are a set number of books you have to worry about spoilers from reviewers or friends. I have tried not to read books in a trilogy, etc where I know the next book hasn't been published yet only to have people discussing plot points.I would rather read a book and remember it until the sequel comes out than know a plot point that I then search for in the book.
