Romance Suspense | Romance

Nothing can shake a cop from pursuing justice-except a beautiful witness marked for death, in New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster's sexy new series...

When Detective Logan Riske goes undercover to find Pepper Yates, a potential link to his best friend's unsolved murder, he vows to gain her cooperation by any means necessary. But the elusive beauty is more suspicious-and in far more danger-than he expected. And the last thing Logan needs is to start caring for her....

Pepper has spent years dodging the corrupt club owner who will stop at nothing to keep her silenced. She can trust no one, not even the handsome new "construction worker" who's moved in next door. The heat between them is undeniable. But will surrendering to passion bring her the safety she so desires-or will her feelings for Logan draw them both into a killer's crosshairs?

Re: Run The Risk

I think Kresley Cole's Lothaire would have to be a book where the hero does dishonorable things, especially to the heroine. But I think that's what makes you like him because he tries to redeem himself.
(Krissy Malott 11:55am October 6, 2012)

I THINK LINDA HOWARD'S "CRY NO MORE" IS A BOOK WHERE THE
HERO DOES DISHONORABLE THINGS. HE BREAKS INTO AN OFFICE GETS
THE INFORMATION ON THE HEROINE'S MISSING BABY BOY AND
DESTROYS IT. BUT THE HEROINE FORGIVES HIM AND THEY LIVE
HAPPY EVER AFTER BUT SHE FINDS HER BOY AFTER TEN YEARS.

In Christina Dodd's Into the Shadow, Adrik thought he was above everything. He kidnapped Karen, held her captive, used her as a sex slave, then lied to her of who he is when he found her again. But somewhere, he did learn a lesson. Although he was arrogant, he did learn about humility. That's probably why I like him.

A book I am reading now. A Very Merry Chase by Teresa Thomas Bohannon. Lord Branderly begins as a highwayman when he stops the carriage of Lady Sabrina.
(
Leona Olson 7:18pm October 6, 2012)

Absolutely love mysteries.
(
Pamela Fox 1:20pm October 7, 2012)

Love your other serials, waiting for this new one.
(
P Noda 5:14pm October 7, 2012)

Off the top of my head cannot think of anything dishonorable; this book/series sounds v.g. Cannot wait to read them.
(
Pat Lieberman 8:16am October 10, 2012)

I agree whole-heartedly with Krissy. I loved Lothaire and there are many others too but off the top of my head I cannot think of them.
(
Barbara Hanson 8:35am October 10, 2012)

I think of JR Ward's character Zadist, he is so damaged at first. I love how
he learns to honor himself as he grows in the series.
(
Ann Sheiring 8:48am October 10, 2012)

In Britain there has been a storm over one undercover policeman's sleeping with several environmental protestors in a peace camp. He had a wife and family at home. The general considered opinion is that he should not have slept with women while using his undercover identity. This is fact, not fiction.
How about the Stainless Steel Rat, a Harry Harrison creation? Slippery Jim was a future thief and lived by his wits.
(
Clare O'Beara 10:50am October 10, 2012)

Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books have a bit of both the good and bad guys walking on the other side of the line.
(
Anne Muller 12:24pm October 10, 2012)

My absolute favorite hero behaving badly is Rhett Butler. He wants to protect, share passion, and lose himself into one person that was too entraced with an illusion. But lets face it, he was the ultimate bad rake that would use any means necessary to get what he wanted.
(
Carla Carlson 12:37pm October 10, 2012)

Well Roarke from JD Robb's In Death Series has not always been on the right side of the law... love how he helps Eve out...
(
Colleen Conklin 1:18pm October 10, 2012)

If the book is half as hot as Logan in your trailer, well.... Can't wait to read your Logan's story!!
(
Christina Gross 2:47pm October 10, 2012)

On Dublin Street. Just the whole way of the book and then he turns out
decent!
(
Vicki Hancock 2:52pm October 10, 2012)

Suz Brockmann's Izzy does a few dishonorable things, but for the right reasons - including trying to give the woman he loves a divorce.
(
Kelli Jo Calvert 3:10pm October 10, 2012)

Ooh- I never would have thought of Rhett Butler, but he is definitely the original
rake! I'm looking forward to reading this new book!
(
Debbie Burdeen 3:12pm October 10, 2012)

Your question took me by surprise today!! The only book that comes to mind would be Roses by Leila Meacham, which would cover a lifetime of dishonesty by 2 people, actually. It's my favorite book. After that, I've read so many books since I've finally moved to the country from the city, and have had a chance to get in the groove again and catch my breath!! It wasn't easy living in a pop-up camper, and moving around to different campgrounds (we lost our house, and most of our belongings). Anyway, our library is quite small, and the librarian has turned into a good friend. She directed me to some series which I've enjoyed and needed to unwind - Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Chiaverini, and Katie Jacobs. I also enjoy Amy Tan, Gregory Maguire, Mary Higgins Clark, and Joseph Wambaugh, to name a few, so my tastes are all over the map, depending on my moods. I would love to read your book, and start off with a new series as well. I'm sure I would enjoy it. It sounds great!!
(
Peggy Roberson 4:40pm October 10, 2012)

I'm going with Lothaire and JR Ward has some characters who
qualify-Adrian & Matthias in her Fallen Angels Series,
Showalter has a few in her Lords of the Underworld...I love
seeing them redeem themselves and find their inner good-guy
(
Lenna Hendershott 4:59pm October 10, 2012)

I can't think of anyone dishonorable. I hope I still get a chance to win.
(
Rita Wray 5:32pm October 10, 2012)

I love Lori's books, thanks for the chance to win!!!
(
Christine Mead 5:39pm October 10, 2012)

Thanks for the giveaway!
(
Cheryl Stillwell 8:52pm October 10, 2012)

I just read a book by Yvonne Lindsay "A Silken Seduction" that had a man with dishonorable intentions but for a good reason. It's a very intriguing concept and makes for an interesting read!
(
Michele Hayes 12:24pm October 11, 2012)

Hmmm off the top of my head I come up with Barrons from KMM. He starts off by just using Mac for his own personal gain.
(
Kristin Bingham 12:31pm October 11, 2012)

Love reading your books. Keep them coming. hope i win.
(
Linda Hall 1:02am October 11, 2012)

In nearly every book that I read the hero does something dishonorable. They have lied, kidnapped, deceived, ignored. Thank goodness, by the end of the book all is revealed. Our hero is fighting for truth and justice.
(
Ann Quin 2:04am October 11, 2012)

I'd love to win this!!
(
Bonnie Capuano 5:40am October 11, 2012)

I'll go to the classics and say Rhett Butler, though he did redeem himself.
(
Mary Preston 5:59am October 11, 2012)

Well, I consider Snape in the Harry Potter series as a hero who made a mistake and then does whatever it takes to make up for that mistake but he still has to do a lot of bad things such as killing dumbledore to keep his spying role.
(
Pam Howell 7:11am October 11, 2012)

In the series by Patricia Veryan, Roland Mathieson did some dishonorable things in his search for treasure but in the end redeemed himself. A real tear-jerker!
(
Lisa Elwood 11:02am October 11, 2012)

I like a lot of Christina Dodd's contemporary romances, like Danger in a Red Dress, because the heroes always do something REALLY dumb. As long as there's lots of groveling later, I'm okay with that!
(
Rebecca Whitehead-Schwarz 11:14am October 11, 2012)

It sounds like a great book. (I also loved Scandal by Amanda Quick). Congrats on the latest series.
(
Larena Hubble 11:51am October 11, 2012)

I read constantly and whenever I run into the situation you describe I wait to see
it gets resolved. I cannot remember any specific story that in my mind fits the
bill. I enjoy a good book for what it is and then go on to the next in my TBR pile.
I very much enjoyed your last(?) series with Savor and his brethren and I am
really excited that you have a new series for us to savor!
(
Sandra Spilecki 12:05pm October 11, 2012)

The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce. The Heroine keeps her sisters baby and claims it as her own to protect the child the mother and the father out of love for the father.
(
Annetta Stolpmann 12:06pm October 11, 2012)

I love Linda Howard's books Dream Man and After the Night.
Both Heroes betray the Heroines have a difficult time
redeeming themselves
(
Cindy Olp 12:36pm October 11, 2012)

Snape is a great example, but Rhett Butler is definitely the best scoundrel in town! lol Thanks for he contest and congrats on the new series!
(
Kim Giardina 1:35pm October 11, 2012)

Oh my goodness! My mind is blank. At this moment in time, I can't think of a hero who did something dishonorable, but I would like to win your book.
(
Anna Speed 1:43pm October 11, 2012)

thanks for a fun post and congrats ont he new release!
(
Erin Fender 3:42pm October 11, 2012)

I think what constitutes 'dishonorable' is in the eye of the
beholder. I'm reading Monica McCarty's Highlander books &
there is a lot of death as clans protect & fight for their own
- often blurring the lines of which is the 'good' side.
(
Diane Sallans 5:13pm October 11, 2012)

this sounds like my kind of book to read...
(
Kimberly Hoefs 6:39pm October 11, 2012)

Lori I haven't read a lot of your books but the few I have read I loved. Would love to win this one!

Brenda Rupp 6:57pm October 11, 2012)

Can't think of a dishonorable hero on the spur of the moment, but book sounds like a great read.
(
Sheila True 7:21pm October 11, 2012)

yep great contest
(
Kent Cook 7:40pm October 11, 2012)

The first ones that come to mind are Terrible and Lex from
Stacia Kane's Downside Ghosts series, Daemon and Saetan from
Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy, Roarke from J.D. Robb's
In Death series and Severn and Nightshade from Michelle
Sagara'a Chronicles of Elantra. All the heroes are majorly
damaged and do some pretty bad things at some point, but
they are also all unquestionably loyal to the women they
love...
(
Elizabeth Hyatt 7:45pm October 11, 2012)

Right this minute I cannot think of a one but I'm sure that the question will plague me until I think of one.
Good luck and happy writing!
(
Tracie Travis 8:41pm October 11, 2012)

I was struggling to come up with an answer but I notice that a prior commentor mentions Barrons from Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. He is a great example! I also love the answer of Izzy from Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. It appears that I have to start reading JR Ward and Kresley Cole.
(
Jennifer Beyer 9:05pm October 11, 2012)

Excellent concept - very realistic - things aren't just black and white!
(
Felicia Ciaudelli 9:18pm October 11, 2012)

I know I have read several books involving hero's doing something "dishonorable" however the only one I can think of at the moment is Archer from the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins or Karvonen from "The Raven Ring" by Patricia C Wrede.
(
Chelsea Knestrick 9:58pm October 11, 2012)

i love the cover HOT!!!!!! thanks for the chance to win..
(
Jennifer Beck 10:54pm October 11, 2012)

great plot, added to my list!
(
Debbi Shaw 11:25pm October 11, 2012)

Brenda Joyce---The Masqurade.
(
Kathy Fowler 11:32pm October 11, 2012)

I can't think of one. But this book sounds good.
(
Penny Mettert 11:40pm October 11, 2012)

I can't think of any. But in Cover Of night there is the group of bad guys
(
Patricia Kasner 11:58pm October 11, 2012)

All your books are great! Finally got Run the Risk! Always late in a small
town!
(
Kim Cornwell 10:59am October 12, 2012)

sounds like a good read' going on my tbr list!
(
Barbara Studer 11:09am October 12, 2012)

Erik Northman from southern vampire series is notorious for doing dishonorable things!
(
Maria Smith 11:08pm October 12, 2012)

So many sexy bad boys to choose from! But I guess I'll go with Kresley Cole's Lothaire; he's ancient, ruthless, ambitious, a liar and a doublecrosser, yet he changes for love.
(
Dana Wong 5:05am October 13, 2012)

In Maya Banks' "Hidden Away", Gabriel Kelly pretends to
befriend and seduce Sarah Daniels to catch her half-brother,
Marcus Lattimer.
(
Angelique Van Winkle 3:33pm October 13, 2012)

Enjoyed reading the comments. I can't remember one book that stands out with
that kind of a hero. I do like the Regency ones since most of those are about
heroes who are priviledged without much to do but attend dances and their
clubs.
(
Joy Isley 2:40pm October 14, 2012)

Dick Francis often had his heroes doing something slightly dishonorable to beat the bad guys. Much fun! Your book sounds like fun, too.
(
Shirley Nienkark 3:01pm October 14, 2012)

Obviously, both Youslorytiffany Andesonr and Tdotietzorlan Andesonr are foreign hackers. What does cheap immitation copies of Tiffany Earrings, Bracelets and Necklaces have to do with authors and books? ? ? I, for one, could not be the least interested; if they're trying to do business in this manner. I'm sure they're cheap imported FAKES made in China! I hope no one is falling for this and their way to advertise this (junk)!
(
Linda Luinstra 3:23pm October 14, 2012)

That male protagonist has always been the one to straddle the line between danger and safety. I like to see what it takes to get him out of troubles.
(
Alyson Widen 3:27pm October 14, 2012)

I can't think of any at the moment that I've read. I will have to read the books you've mentioned above. I think you're new book sound very good and like a fun read. Thanks for sharing!
(
Linda Luinstra 3:31pm October 14, 2012)

I love you books ! You are so talented thanks for coming out with a new one :)
(
Danielle McDonald 7:18am October 16, 2012)

I love novels where the hero and the girl both want to deny
their feeling for each other. It makes for a great story to
see if one or both will give in to love.

I too love when the hero has to do something that seems to go against his
character and then he has to justify what he has done. I have added this to
my to reads and I really like the cover. Thanks for stopping by.

You had me at hunk. The ripped abs on your cover belong to a
