SEAL WOLF HUNTING is Book sixteen in the Heart of the Wolf series by Terry Spear. Even though it's part of a series, I believe that readers who are new to the series can still read and enjoy SEAL WOLF HUNTING. This is a "friends-to-lovers" story about two people who grew up together but never acted on their mutual attraction until now -- and they're both werewolves. For me, the heart of the story is the evolution of Paul Cunningham and Lori Greypaw's relationship. There are a little bit of danger at times, but the focus is on the romance and the main characters.
Lori Greypaw is another strong female character created by Terry Spear. Rather than whine and mope about the object of her affection never staying home long enough to have a relationship with, Lori is pragmatic and living her life to the fullest. She is a woman who recognizes the part she plays in her family and her wolf pack while maximizing her strengths. Lori is typical of the kind of grounded, multifaceted, likable characters that Terry Spear writes about. I like romances in which the hero and heroine are working together and don't come into a lot of conflict with each other. Lori and Paul are definitely on the same side and don't do a lot of arguing, but their changing relationship has a learning curve.
The sense of danger in SEAL WOLF HUNTING comes from a few local omega wolf malcontents. The troublemakers are always on the periphery creating an anticipation of violence. This tension balances out the romance and lighter moments. I like how this aspect of SEAL WOLF HUNTING ties into Lori and Paul's relationship. Lori's first reaction to being harassed is to handle things herself because that's what she's had to do for so many years while Paul went on missions and wasn't always around. The trust and ability for Lori to rely on Paul is something that is an ongoing theme in SEAL WOLF HUNTING.
SEAL WOLF HUNTING is a fun, sweet, and character-driven romance. The passion between Lori and Paul gets hotter and intensifies as their feelings grow and become stronger. One of the strengths of this book, as well as this series, is the tight-knit relationships between family and friends. I love how the members of Lori and Paul's pack support each other and watch out for each other. As always, I look forward to the next book by Terry Spear.
