Holly, my dog, is a major diva and does things usually when
she wants to do them. My favorite thing is when she jumps
on the couch and put her paw over my leg and "owns" me!

It all depends on how the material is handled. I agree that the fact that they know each other so well bodes well for their future but unless there has always been some undercurrent or something has drastically changed in the best friends lives it can come off as contrived. Since I usually like humor in my romance reading, the more unusual the course of true love the better.
