"It's best not to cross this female dragon"

Romance Paranormal

Lyndi Chandali will someday be forced into a mating. The cousin of the High King, a female-born dragon is a perfect commodity to political gain. She can never be a true mate but she can be THE PROTECTOR to orphaned dragons. She begins to rescue and make a home for all the endangered children she can find.

Levi Rowtag is the Beta of the Huracan enforcers and his job is to fight. Too bad the stubborn woman he knows is his mate is dead set against any kind of connection with him. But when an enemy is on the way to claim Levi's mate, he is not going to let her go to someone else. Will the staunch enforcer go rogue for his woman? Without a question.

THE PROTECTOR is a fascinating look back into author Abigail Owens intriguing firefighters, who look human but are really fire breathing dragons. They protect humans from rogue dragons and their fire. When Lyndi arrived she immediately let Levi know that she has no interest in him as she misunderstood his reaction to her. Things went downhill from there. As she gathers orphans to make a home and to protect them Levi finds himself even more drawn to her. She, of course, feels that as she is a female born dragon and therefore sterile she would only be wanted as a political pawn. She has fought that and her feelings for Levi for years, but now with her own "family" in danger, she isn't about to go meekly to some upstart. Especially one that threatens to get rid of that family.

THE PROTECTOR could be the label for both Levi and Lyndi as they are both protectors in their own way. The dragon world is in an upheaval with the kings fighting each other and rogues fighting for the rights of mates. It seems that the supposed free choice of the female potential mates has been manipulated for a number of years. There is a lot of soul searching on right and wrong as the dragons must decide where they stand in the war and what they must do as honorable dragons.

This is an amazing world and Ms. Owen does a great job of drawing you into it and into the lives of the characters she has created. As you are pulled in by the characters - the drama and danger will keep you there. On a bit of a personal note, I loved the fantastic and well-deserved surprise for Lyndi and Levi once they mated - and - sorry, you will have to read THE PROTECTOR to find out what it is. But I do think it is a really deserving ending ... or is it a beginning?

SUMMARY

The cousin of the High King, Lyndi Chandali has lived with the constant threat of being pawned off as a political prize. A rare, female-born dragon like Lyndi can’t truly mate--not in the way it counts. Which is why she's kept her distance from a certain sinfully delicious Beta. Instead, she's built a life for herself giving orphaned dragons in the Americas a home.

As Beta of his team of enforcers, Levi Rowtag is a fighter first, last, and always. His job is to protect--his team, the shifters in his territory, and the stubborn woman hell-bent on fighting with him at every turn. He knows from the moment they first meet what she’ll never accept--they are destined to be mated.

But with the kings at war, the enemy is now coming for Lyndi. Worse, he’s coming for her orphans, too. He’ll have no choice but to defy his king and go rogue if he has any hope of protecting them all. . . and finally claiming his mate.
