Maddie Thompson is a human who just had her world turned upside down. It seems there are real dragons in the world and she is the perfect mate for one of them. Too bad she hadn't really gotten over Fallon Conleth who walked away with a piece of her heart. Until in walks THE MATE that she is shocked to see.
Fallon Conleth isn't sure why he has been summoned to this particular Mating Council, he's not really old enough to be worrying about finding a mate. Not to mention that he's still has a piece of his heart missing with the human he had to leave behind. Then he realizes that the potential mate is his Maddie. Now he has to play the matching game to win her because if she chooses the wrong mate she will die.
THE MATE might be a novella but it is packed with a lot of dragon action and world development for this new amazing series. This is the introduction to a world where dragon shifters exist and some are perfectly fit for firefighting, which is what Fallon and his brother seem to be the outside world. Though in truth they are enforcers protecting humans and their own kind from rogue dragons.
Already part of the drama is this Mating Council and its rituals. You will have to read THE MATE to see the process to understand that those considered rogues might be right. They think it is archaic and very unfair and to some, it ends in tragedy. If the wrong mate is chosen the female dies a painful death. If a potential mate dies that leaves her true mate without her, so, of course, there is a bit of anger with upset dragons going rogue. Add in a danger to Fallon and Maddie when one of his kind challenges the old king and you have a runaway adventure. This is a romance so in the end, love wins out.
So if you want sexy, firefighting dragons; strong, intelligent, feisty heroines; a new world to explore; danger; intrigue; and, of course, love that can withstand anything then you must read THE MATE.
