What's a librarian to do when she finds a murdered woman's body in the stacks? Minnie Hamilton doesn't set out to get involved in the investigation, but she does have to protect her library's reputation. She's also dealing with the board's search for a new library director, and a rash of vandalism in the small resort community. Good thing she has the bookmobile cat, Eddie, to look out for her safety, while she looks for the culprit.
CAT WITH A CLUE is the fifth book in Laurie Cass's Bookmobile Cat series. They are always fun, fast reads, with clever plots that let you guess along with Minnie as she and Eddie uncover the clues to the killer. Part of their charm is that you get to know Minnie's circle of friends a little better in each book, and meet a few newcomers (some nicer than others) each time around.
Minnie herself is a kindred spirit for book lovers. She namedrops books and authors, and if we don't know them, we want to look them up. She's horrified when the vandal mistreats books at several crime scenes. She's good natured but has her bad days, just like any of us. Pet parents will also recognize themselves in Minnie, as she carries on conversations with Eddie and complains about his bad habits while slipping him treats.
CAT WITH A CLUE and the other Bookmobile Cat Mysteries are good, clean stories that you can recommend to your church friends, young adult readers, or old-fashioned older folks. They're smartly written and will appeal to cozy mystery fans, cat fanciers, and people who love books.
