HERO OF A HIGHLAND WOLF is Book fourteen in Terry Spear's
Heart
of the Wolf series. Even though this book is part of a
series, I believe it can still be read and enjoyed as a
stand-alone. Both the hero and heroine are werewolves.
There is a little bit of an adversarial relationship
between them at first, since there is some bad blood
between the MacQuarries and Colleen Playfair's deceased
father. However, there is no real nastiness that goes on,
and Grant and Colleen end up complementing each other.
At the beginning of HERO OF A HIGHLAND WOLF, I was worried
that the relationship between Grant and Colleen would be
too antagonistic. Grant is worried that Colleen will be as
troublesome as her late father, thus putting his position
as estate manager in jeopardy. It didn't take long for
Terry Spear to dispel that notion. Colleen's introduction
to Grant and his male family members is hilarious. I like
that, almost immediately, Colleen was able to show some
gruff and tough highlanders that she is made of sterner
stuff and was able to do it in a really non-confrontational
way. She proves herself to be smart as well as strong.
One of the things I really like about HERO OF A HIGHLAND
WOLF is that Colleen and Grant's relationship evolves
throughout the book. There is wariness at first,
particularly on Grant's part, but after getting to know
each other, a respect and a liking for each other happens
before any physical intimacy. Once they are both on the
same page about taking their relationship to the next
level, the sexy scenes are pretty hot. I liked that they
both realized that they would have to work as a team to run
the castle as equals. Once again, author Terry Spear
delivers sexy alpha heroes who like strong women and don't
act like jerks.
In addition to the romance, I liked the little dash of
mystery thrown in. I think it added an extra element and
level of excitement to the story. The supporting and
recurring characters are great and work well in HERO OF A
HIGHLAND WOLF. They add to story -- both the lighter
moments, as well as the fast-paced and more intense
moments. The supporting characters never distracted from
the main romance.
HERO OF A HIGHLAND WOLF is full of sexy Scottish werewolf
warriors, strong women, romance and a whole lot of
excitement. I look forward to reading future stories to see
what happens with some of my favorite supporting characters
like Grant's brothers. I eagerly await the next installment
in this fabulous werewolf series!
She's ready for change...
Colleen Playfair has never been to Scotland, but when she
discovers she must spend a year and a day overseas
learning
to manage her newly inherited estate, she's ready for the
challenge. She even has some ideas for improvements-if
she
can get past the sexy werewolf who seems convinced he's
the
one in charge.
But he's digging in his claws...
Grant MacQuarrie and his clan have been managing Farraige
Castle for three centuries. The last thing he wants is a
meddling American heiress trying to change the way things
have always been done. He's more than willing to fight
the
she-wolf every step of the way, using every tool at his
disposal. And if that means taking the lass to bed,
well...all the better.
Locked in a battle of wills, caught in an attraction they
can't escape, Colleen and Grant must find a way to work
together...or face losing it all.
