Romance Historical

After Losing her father, Lillian Phillips, wants to recover his pocket watch, but someone has already bought it. She decides to follow him and try and get it back. This will lead Lillian down a reckless road and a night she'll never forget. One year later she is back in London, and all because of the pocket watch, she finds herself blackmailed by the Mad Duke of Thornwood. Devon Grey meets a beautiful woman at a tavern, and spends an unforgettable night with her, only to discover his new pocket watch missing the next morning. A year later he sees the woman who stole from him at a ball, and vows to get revenge on the woman MUST LOVE DUKES is a creative and fun read about misunderstandings and true love. Lillian is a wonderfully strong female protagonist who goes after what she wants, but because of the time period she lives in, she's still controlled by her older brothers. She has a serious side and a fun side, and though she empathizes with Devon she never tries to change him. Devon is the mysterious hero romance readers love. While most romance heroes are brooding and serious, Devon knows how to laugh and enjoy life. I believe this made him an even better character and hero. Through all the misunderstandings Lillian and Devon learn to see each other for who they really are, and they fall in love for who they are, not for who they want each other to be. Elizabeth Michels creates some great twists in the story, and Lillian's brother Nathaniel, is an unexpected character who is witty and charming. Lillian's potential suitors add humor to MUST LOVE DUKES, and their pompous and ridiculous personalities are both entertaining and believable. Michels has written a delightful love story I enjoyed and will recommend.
