Things are all a'twitter at Inspector Witherspoon's home -- Christmas is approaching, long-time employees Smythe and Betsy are getting married, and Mrs. Jeffries, the housekeeper, and the rest of the staff are busy getting ready for both events. They certainly don't need a new murder case to pop up now, but fate has other plans for the crime-solving household. Christmas and matrimony may just have to wait a bit! MRS JEFFRIES AND THE YULETIDE WEDDINGS: A VICTORIAN MYSTERY is the 26th book in Emily Brightwell's mystery series. A mystery fan favorite, the exciting stories of Mrs. Jeffries and her friends in Victorian-era London continue to be among the best and most popular of the cozy mystery genre. This latest installment is no exception. Agatha Moran, a middle-aged former governess, has been killed in a posh neighborhood, right in front of her former employer's home as the family celebrated a special occasion. But while her murder looked to be a random crime, Inspector Witherspoon's investigation reveals that the crime might not be so random after all. After the Inspector shared his findings with Mrs. Jeffries, she and her band of employees and neighbors soon fan out in the streets, looking for clues to the old nanny's death. Shocking secrets, lies, and deviousness abounds, as the clues begin to point to several potential suspects. Meanwhile, Smythe and Betsy are busy preparing for their wedding, and the arrival of Betsy's family, plus there's a wonderful surprise Smythe hopes to pull off for his new bride. Excitement is high, Christmas is coming, and a murder needs solving. Never a dull moment in this home! I enjoyed how all of Brightwell's characters worked so well together in solving this intriguing mystery. This is a charming story with just the right dash of holiday spirit to make it a great seasonal offering.
