Following in her father's footsteps, Nadia has always known
she was destined to be a cop. It's all she's ever
considered career-wise. When a lapse in judgment leads to
her disgrace and termination from the force, Nadia has to
take other work to pay the bills. She becomes a hit woman
for a mob family. The irony of the situation isn't lost on
her, but she doesn't lose much sleep over it. Her new job
suits her; in fact, being a vigilante is what got her in
trouble in the first place. There are things Nadia does
lose sleep over, though. The nightmares from her past that
have influenced her choices still haunt her and continue to
have more impact on her decisions than she wants to admit.
Although Nadia's new profession dictates that she work
alone, she has contacts in her community. When one of them,
a man known only as Jack, reaches out to her, Nadia doesn't
hesitate to take the job. The "job" is tracking down a
serial killer who's leaving a trail of bodies across the
country. The Feds are sure the killer is a pro and the pros
are starting to think so too. Even hired killers have their
standards. This guy has started killing not for the money,
but because he likes it and that is really bad for
business.
As a former cop, Nadia is obsessed with tracking the killer
down and not bringing him to justice. Justice will
be delivered outside of the court system. Way outside, if
the pros find him before the cops do. The killer realizes
fairly quickly that more than the cops are on his trail and
decides to take out his old friends before they get to him
first. Nadia and her team find themselves going from cat to
mouse before they know it, and although they still haven't
identified him, he knows exactly who they are.
EXIT STRATEGY is Kelley Armstrong's first suspense
novel and her first non-paranormal romantic thriller. I
loved it! I've always like her books. I buy them and read
them as soon as they come out and make the time to read
them over again. I never hesitate to recommend her to
friends and customers, and I've never had anyone who hasn't
come back asking me for more of her books!
Regulars at Nadia’s nature lodge don’t ask what she does in
the off-season. And that’s a good thing. If she told them,
she’d have to kill them. She’s a hit woman for a Mafia
family. Tough and self-sufficient, Nadia doesn’t owe anyone
any explanations. But that doesn’t mean she always works
alone. One of her contacts has recruited her in the hunt
for a ruthlessly efficient serial killer cutting a swath of
terror across the country. The assassin is far too skilled
to be an amateur—and the precision of the killings is
bringing the Feds much too close to the hit man community
for comfort.
To put an end to the murders, Nadia will have to turn
herself from predator to prey as she employs every trick
she knows to find the killer. Before the killer finds her…
