Re: Rainwater (7:13pm December 13, 2009):

I guess I judge history by the age of my family members; with my mother being 95, I don't tend to think of the 1900's as historical. I do look forward to reading the book though since I've always like S. Brown.

Re: The Promise (11:30am October 11, 2009):

We've moved too often to keep books forever, but I still keep some for my kids and their kids because like the ones you mentioned, they are classics and much better than many of the books published today. I don't go back, tho, and read oldies; just too many good new ones.

Re: Table Manners (11:35am September 6, 2009):

Sandi, I did spend the weekend at the bowl and took Lisa Jackson's book Chosen to Die with me. However, between watching the bowling, chatting with people and selling our baked goodies, I never even opened it! Today I will read and maybe hit the Half Price Books sale.

Re: The Fixer Upper (1:37pm August 23, 2009):

My mother always looked down on my fiction reading; she only read biographies and history type books. A teacher got me started on Nancy Drew in the 5th grade and I've enjoyed fiction ever since. I got my dh into romances and he reads more of them than I do lol. My kids read a bit of everything. Btw, I wouldn't read an Oprah book if you paid me.

Re: Hot Pursuit (4:36pm August 2, 2009):

The only hard cover my dh and I buy is a new Nora Roberts. Most of the other books we read we get from 1/2 Price or friends. I was well-known in the Plano libraries, but haven't even been to the one here in Rockwall.

Re: The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society (11:32am July 5, 2009):

I just finished "Season of Strangers" by Kat Martin. I've enjoyed all her books until this one and it was so boring I actually posted a comment. Never heard of this book Sandi until now, but the title alone says "forget it."

Re: Undead And Unwelcome (11:03am June 14, 2009):

Sandi, I've never sought anyone's autograph. I did go to see Nora when she spoke at SMU a few years ago and really enjoyed her, but didn't bother to get a signed book. Since I don't like to write, I don't care how they do it; I'm just glad they can!

Re: The Red Pony (3:32pm June 8, 2009):

Sandi, I still remember learning the word "putrid" from the Red Pony in 7th grade; it ruined my lunch! Also hated Fahrenheit 451 in 7th. Maybe I was just too young. In 10th we had American lit. and I enjoyed "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and hated Faulkner ("my mother smelled like a fish.") 11th grade was Brit. lit. and we had to read the most boring of Thomas Hardy's novels - an hour to read 10 pages and it was a 300 page book. I can't remember the title, but I loved "Tess" and "Far from the Madding Crowd". I also loved Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights (after the first seven chapters lol.) My mother always bragged about reading all 100 "Classics" by the time she graduated (1932). Personally I found some interesting and others boring and still do.

Re: The Warrior (8:46pm May 25, 2009):

I'm not very impulsive except when I see a new flower I just have to have. I don't think it's impulsive to purposely go to Half Price Books and get a box full at 20% off lol.

Re: Pretty in Plaid (11:04pm May 17, 2009):

I prefer to be early rather than stressed when I arrive. My dh is very good at getting somewhere on time- we even arrived in Vegas 15 minutes before my son had to sign in for a tournament lol. I'm not nearly that good at judging how far and how long - especially with Dallas traffic. I always have a book with me to kill time if I need to.

Re: The Accidental Human (1:21pm April 12, 2009):

Covers don't matter too much since the heroine always looks like I'd like to look lol. I tend to look for authors instead. The other day I started in the "A's" and found some new authors to read. I pulled them out and started reading the backs; I'm not sure I even looked at the front cover. I agree that I hate when there is just a picture of the author and no blurb; Nora Robert's books are like that and they're about the only ones I'll buy since I always like her books. Happy Easter!

Re: The Accidental Human (9:39am March 30, 2009):

Hey! on the paranormal side, I think Linda Lael Miller wrote the best vampire series I've ever read. I keep very few books, but those I guard with my life!

Re: The Accidental Human (9:37am March 30, 2009):

Sandi, now that I can think and hear myself think lol I remembered a great book form last summer. It was a first book by Sarah Addison Allen called "Garden Spells". It had a bit of magic, humor, romance and I couldn't put it down. I'm still looking for her 2nd book.

Re: The Accidental Human (4:46pm March 29, 2009):

Sandi, my advice is go to 1/2 Price books and just start buying! You can't go wrong lol. Btw, the cheesecake was a big hit!

Re: Summer On Blossom Street (9:39am March 9, 2009):

Sandi, I think I started living with the characters in a book with the "Little House on the Prairie" books in 4th grade. I think any woman in her right mind would want to be Eve Dallas in the J.D.Robb books and be married to Roark. I wouldn't mind those auto-chefs either!

Re: Germania (12:09pm February 22, 2009):

Having lived in Berlin twice and visited Prague once, I'd agree with you. However, I'd love to go back to see the changes that have occurred (and to be honest...visit KaDeWe again.) I can't wait to read the book!

Re: The McKettrick Way (8:44pm February 15, 2009):

Linda, My dh and I have read your books for years! Keep up the great writing! Will you ever write another vampire novel?

Re: Obama (10:05pm January 18, 2009):

I loved the books "The Spy Wore Red" and several others by Countess "Somebody" about her life as a spy during WWII. I just bought a bio by Madeline Albright about her life as an ambassador. It only cost me a buck so even if I skim it, I'll get my money's worth.
