The 13th installment in the Bookmobile Cat Mysteries by Laurie Cass takes the bookmobile on a wild ride into the death of a local surgeon found in the woods with an arrow through her chest. Was it a hunting accident or was it murder?
After visiting an adult foster home, Minnie is intrigued by a conversation she had about Gainsborough, an enclave of summer Victorian cottages built during the logging heyday on Deer Lake. She takes a detour there, and as she admires the ambiance of this special place, Eddie escapes the bookmobile and runs into the woods. With Minnie in hot pursuit, she stumbles across the body of a woman lying on the ground with an arrow in her chest. As Minnie calls for help, the woman whispers a secret message. Minnie is not sure what the message means, but when she learns the woman later died at the hospital, she starts to ponder its significance. The police want to rule it a hunting accident, but Minnie is having none of that, and she starts an investigation into the woman’s life, leading her on a hunt through disgruntled neighbors, malpractice lawsuits, local archers, and indifferent sons. Will Minnie and Eddie solve the riddle and bring justice for the dead woman?
