Romance Suspense

Shabina Foster had thought she had left the past behind her, but she could feel the DEADLY STORMS coming her way. She has her friends who are amazing comforts, her dogs, her security and the café that she loves and lives for after what she had suffered at the hands of a man who has never been caught lives with her. On top of her fears of being watched and some hometown bullies, bodies start showing up and forcing the search and rescue into action.

Rainier Ashcroft had rescued the young Shabina from the hell her life had become, and when the past starts rearing its ugly head, he will again come to the rescue. This time, he has no plans on ever leaving her side again. Though the reality of who he is might make her feel less protected and more afraid.

DEADLY STORMS takes fans of author Christine Feehan back to her people in the Sierras. This is the continuation of the series that includes Murder at Sunrise Lake and Red on the River. This is Shabina’s story, which had been hinted at in those two other offerings and gives more details of what this strong, young woman has gone through and the strength that she has to live life to the fullest. Rainier is a character that fits this woman perfectly, because it feels as if he wants to throw her in bubble wrap but stands back – though not very far – to let her handle things the way she has to.

As with the other books in this series, there is a lot of outdoor activity such as hiking, birdwatching, bouldering and rock climbing, but it is very educational and interesting to see the world few of us will ever see. The closeness of the women of this small town is heartwarming, as they have all had traumas and are there for one another in any way the other person needs.

I think the only problem I had with DEADLY STORMS is that there are a lot of names of characters and if you are not one who pays close attention to the supporting characters, it can be confusing. Otherwise, the storyline is eye-opening, filled with danger and intrigue, a bit of a mystery as to the identity of Shabina’s nemesis and the perfect touch of romance. Come on – a guy who parachutes in at night with dogs has got to be a keeper.

DEADLY STORMS is a book that you will want to read again and again.

SUMMARY

Danger is gathering on the horizon in this gripping novel of romantic suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

Shabina Foster does her best to lead a normal life. She takes comfort in her friends and her dogs and finds passion in running her own small-town café in the eastern Sierra. But she can’t help always looking over her shoulder, not after what happened in her past. Since then, Shabina has worked very hard to build herself up and live life to the fullest.

Still, there’s no denying the scars she carries. Truly opening up her guarded world seems like an impossible dream—especially when it comes to the one man who makes her feel safe. Shabina already feels like she’s ruined his life and is determined to keep her distance, even as the ghosts of her past emerge from the shadows.

Security expert Rainier Ashcroft knows firsthand that a storm is brewing and that Shabina is in real trouble. Threats are approaching on all sides—and there’s no telling when the next hit will strike. But convincing the woman he loves to truly let him in will be just as difficult as keeping her alive.

Audiobook Narrator Chloe Pfeiffer.
