Marlow Hedding has only the goal of beginning a new life in mind when she leaves Chicago and moves to the small rental cottage in Bramble, Kentucky. Not looking for romance at all she finds that along with the cute cottage and fantastic lake and sunrise views – former Marine, Cort Easton the owner of THE GUEST COTTAGE she rents is also great to have around.
Leaving behind a world of betrayal and the executive pressures she had put up with for too long, Marlow finds she really loves the simple life of Bramble. This is a town that wants to stay little so they don’t accept newcomers or buildings in their area. If you make the cut, they might let you stay. It isn’t easy but Marlow soon proves herself and begins to be accepted.
Cort had become part of Bramble years ago through his mother, who spent too long in an abusive home and on the run. Settled in the town where she felt loved and protected, this became his home too. Now he has found Marlow, though learning of her near divorce turned widowhood, he knows to take it one step at a time. Then he has to try to figure out a way to make the townspeople claim her so he can do the same – though to be honest he would follow her anywhere.
THE GUEST COTTAGE is another fantastic read by author Lori Foster. As always, this is a book that will go beyond expectations and leave you wanting to find this town and see if you can get accepted there, too.
Seriously, a lovely story of starting over after you have been beaten down. Marlow had a life of wealth and power, but she wasn’t happy.
Learning that her husband cheated on her she begins divorce proceedings but before it is final he is killed in a car accident. Marlow stayed only long enough to bury him and set the plans to sell her house before leaving. In Bramble, she learns that she loves this simple life – going from an executive in a large corporation to a waitress in a tavern and loving every minute of it. Despite her in-laws continued calls she is happy.
The past comes knocking on her door one evening. Pixie Nolan, the other woman, stands there with a baby in her arms. She had nowhere to go so she finds Marlow and begs for help. The truth hits Marlow as Pixie is little more than a teenager, she’s broke and ill. The compassion that Marlow, Cort and later the whole town feel for Pixie is heartwarming. Pixie grows and thrives in Bramble despite the in-laws who at one point try to bribe her to disappear.
THE GUEST COTTAGE is a warm, witty, lovely read that makes you feel good about the world and gives hope that love and compassion will always win out.
Love, forgiveness, and renewal take center stage in the haven of a quiet lakeside town when two very different women bond over one man’s betrayals in this uplifting new series from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster.
Marlow Heddings is starting over. She’s carried the outrage of her husband Dylan’s affair with a younger woman—and the expectations of his family’s powerful Chicago holdings company—long enough. Now, after another devastating twist of fate, she’s unapologetically moving on.
Arriving in tiny Bramble, Kentucky, Marlow revels in her freedom, swapping her executive suits for sundresses . . . and scouting places to open her dream boutique. Best of all is her new residence, an adorable cottage with gorgeous lake views—and a breathtaking landlord, former Marine Cort Easton. Soon they’re sharing dockside morning coffee and nighttime firefly gazing. Marlow’s new life feels like a dream.
Then Pixie Nolan arrives on her doorstep. With a shocking secret.
To Marlow’s astonishment, Dylan’s “other woman” is a desperate girl of nineteen, destitute, exhausted, and disowned by her family. Defying her manipulative in-laws’ demands, and surprising even herself, Marlow vows to lay down roots in Bramble and help Pixie get on her feet. Then they’ll part ways. But empathy has a way of forging bonds. As Marlow grows close to the hard-working, devoted young woman, she becomes something of a big sister to Pixie.
Now, with each sunrise, Marlow awakens to the life she was truly meant to live, one filled with deepening connections, supportive friendship . . . and even a second chance at love.
