Callie McCallahan had moved away from Hoker, Kentucky years ago but when her world falls apart she finds herself right back there. A broken engagement that wasn’t accepted by the guy or for that matter their families, Callie goes to her inherited farm to start over. She has no idea how to run a farm, but she knows social media and hopes to bring in more viewers to her new way of life. The last thing she expected was to run into her new neighbor while walking along her property with her cousin Glory. But once her racing heart got back to normal she saw Tanner Patrick and she was only thinking LET ME BE THE ONE that gets that man.
Tanner Patrick was torn he knew Callie from her years living on the other side of Hoker and had crushed on the rich girl knowing there was never going to be anything there. His background was nothing that would allow her to look twice. He thought she was a princess and wanted her to sell the farm to him and go away before his heart got caught up again in a woman who could never be his.
LET ME BE THE ONE is author Lori Foster at her best. This is book one of a new series entitled Family Ties and is the perfect beginning. There is a lot of background that is gone through, with a lot of coffee drinking while going through these lively as well as some heart-wrenching conversations.
Tanner’s background is certainly a sad one and he credits his adoptive mom Addie with pulling him from his anger to being a rough, tough but warm-hearted man. I adored Addie, (a little side note as this was my mom’s name I already felt attached to this character) she was certainly a woman who would do for others above and beyond.
Callie was determined not to reconcile with her former fiancé because she didn’t trust him and certainly didn’t love him. It was a merger for the families but after catching him with another woman decided no merger was worth living a lie. Watching her learn and grow and seeing how she formed a closeness with those around her. Even the other neighbors she was warned to keep away from are mellowed by her warmth and friendliness.
LET ME BE THE ONE is sweet, with just the right touch of steam, and romance, but the road is never smooth for any romance. In part, it is because the ex will not give up, and because of him things happen that frighten or hurt Callie. The variety of characters should not blend as well as they do but Ms. Foster knows how to build a town. Adding in characters such as Kam, Tanner’s “brother” is also a child taken in by Addie. Glory, her cousin, Nell, a young woman with a way with animals, and Liam the young handyman who is also helping Callie learn more about farm life and even Dirk and Lang, the neighbors, and you have an amazing read.
LET ME BE THE ONE will pull you in with each page, giving you the feeling that you are there, really know these people and never want to leave Hoker, Kentucky.
She’s more than the girl next door. She’s the one who got away.
When Callie McCallahan left Hoker, Kentucky, she thought it was for good. Her parents moved the family away to pursue financial success. Since then, she’s had some bumps in the road, most recently the humiliation of a failed engagement. When she inherits her uncle’s farm in her old neighborhood, it’s the perfect do-over. With her social media skills, she’ll attract a whole new following and restart her career. The only thing is…she knows nothing about farming.
For Tanner Patrick, Callie was the one who got away. He crushed on her in high school, but she barely knew he existed. Ten years later, she’s back—and now she lives next door. Tanner keeps his head down and focuses on his family’s tree farm. But when he sees that Callie is in way over her head and looking pretty down-to-earth and happy—Tanner finds her impossible to ignore.
When Callie stumbles through the woods and encounters her sexy chain-saw-wielding neighbor, Callie definitely notices Tanner. Could this be the do-over each of them didn’t know they needed?
