Here are three novellas with a broad Christmas theme and Amish characters, in varying locations. Rachel J. Good, Lenora Worth and Shelley Shepard Gray are familiar names in the inspirational romance category. They have collaborated on THE CHRISTMAS GATHERING. A CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard Gray features an exciting and fun-filled large family gathering. In farming country, the Amish can only gather for any length of time during winter, and this extended family makes a party of the event. An outsider is welcome, just one more among over forty friends. Tricia Troyer is busy with preparations but she’s delighted that her cousin’s best friend returns to spend Christmas. Brandt Massey is English, not Amish, but he’s a good young man and has no other place to spend the holiday. Delightful events like a scavenger hunt are underway, and maybe there will be time to find romance. WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora Worth continues the theme, but amusingly the senior men of two Amish families are in a longstanding feud and don’t know they have unexpectedly booked to spend the holiday with their families at the same inn. I’ve read several of the Shadow Lake Inn stories, all of which involve hospitality and quilting. Lucas Myer meets Kayla Hollinger as they stroll in the peaceful, snowy landscape by the lake. For the sake of their families, can they do something to resolve the silly feud? If they can, they may gain a personal reward of love. HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. Good is a rather unusual tale in that it has an urban setting. Some Amish families moved to Lancaster City and decided to run a community centre. Here, Mark Troyer who left the farm for a life of music, is booked to entertain. Young teen Joline Lapp, too young even for Rumspringa, puts aside her bonnet and plain dress to go out with girlfriends Amari and Elise to the band night. Her parents would never let her play music on stage, but she’s going to enjoy watching it while she can, and the lead singer Mark is so fine, she can’t believe he’s originally Amish too. Where their future lies is hard for them to work out, but both young people want a good life. If you have not tried these authors, the dip-into nature of THE CHRISTMAS GATHERING will provide a good taster. At the holiday time of year, it can be hard to concentrate on a long story, so the shorter works seem perfect for a break on a busy day. Everyone will find a preference and mine was WE GATHER TOGETHER.
Christmas miracles abound in this trio of stories that celebrate holiday blessings with three Amish families who discover the season’s sweetest gifts . . .A CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard GrayTricia Troyer is thrilled when Brandt Holden, her cousin’s English friend, joins the Troyers’ holiday gathering for the second year in a row. The sparks between them are clear to everyone. When Brandt asks Tricia to be his girlfriend, they both know she’ll have important choices to make about her future. But the two aren’t as different as some believe—and with open hearts and understanding, their very own Christmas miracle just might be possible . . . WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora WorthWhen Lucas Myer meets Kayla Hollinger on the shores of Lake Erie, he’s smitten. Their families are even staying at the same inn, for different gatherings. The two plan to meet again—but soon enough they discover a problem: their relatives are locked in a longtime feud and forbid them to socialize. Fortunately, Lucas and Kayla are old enough to make their own decisions—and they decide to create a Christmas miracle of forgiveness and love . . . HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. GoodYears ago, Mark was banished by his Amish family when he chose a career in music. It still hurts, especially during the holidays. And now, just before Christmas, he and his band find themselves stranded after their manager absconds with their money. Desperate, Mark is offered a job teaching piano—but that’s just the first miracle. His work will not only bless others in need, but a longtime fan might just capture his heart—and even lead him home . . .
