Detective Nicole Lawson has a Valentine’s Day date for the first time in years only to be stood up by the man she’s been seeing. Having to show up at a scene with a body in her date clothes, walking across the sand in her Jimmy Choos’, is just the cherry on top of her crappy evening. What starts off as a suspected suicide quickly gets ruled as a homicide, sending the Lost Beach Police Department scrambling to preserve whatever evidence they can.
As Nicole starts questioning witnesses, more questions arise than answers. Detective Emmet Davis, Nicole’s secret long-time crush and her work rival, is made the lead in the homicide case, and together they try to figure out what the witness is holding back. When she’s almost run down, followed by another body dropping, Nicole finds herself on her own, working a theory no one else believes in. Now with her relationship with Emmet changing, she’s going to have to figure out who’s targeting her before it's too late.
Laura Griffin finally gives us Emmet and Nicole’s story in LIAR’S POINT. These two have been circling each other for a while in the Texas Murder File series and the undercurrents have been smoking. From the first chapter, Griffin weaves a complex tale full of murders and mystery and then throws in a smoldering romance to top things off. The way the mystery unfolds, I don’t think anyone can see the motive behind the murders or predict what’s coming next. There are also updates on characters from other books in the series and it’s always fun to see what previous favorites are now up to. For fans of really good romantic suspense, LIAR’S POINT should be your next read, though I recommend you binge the entire series.
Two homicide detectives must separate the puzzling truth from a growing web of lies while investigating a murder victim’s friends and lovers in Lost Beach, Texas.
Detective Nicole Lawson is fed up with her job and nonexistent love life. Her first date in months gets cut short by an urgent call from the chief of police. A body has been discovered at Lighthouse Point, and the medical examiner finds an array of strange clues. When the death is ruled a homicide, the news quickly reverberates through Nicole’s beachside hometown.
The Lost Beach police department swings into high gear. Leading the investigation is Emmet Davis, a veteran detective who is Nicole’s fiercest rival at work and also the man she has secretly harbored feelings toward for years. With Emmet calling the shots, Nicole sets out to search for leads, starting with the enigmatic yoga instructor who first discovered the body. Nicole is certain the witness knows more than she’s revealing and may even hold the key to unlocking the case.
When another person turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, Nicole sees a bizarre pattern, but no one believes her theory. Under the gun to solve the case, Nicole must put aside her tumultuous feelings and work closely with Emmet to figure out who is targeting her beloved hometown . . . before she becomes a target herself.
