MIDNIGHT AT THE CHRISTMAS BOOKSHOP

Carmen Β Hogan is in a bit of a mess.Β  Despite being thirty, she still lives in her sister’s basement, and her year-long romance with Oke, a snake-loving boyfriend from Brazil, has barely moved along after a year of them going out from a few kisses and handholding. Carmen’s joy is her wonderful, but low-paying job in an old new and used bookstore on Edinburgh’s picturesque and iconic cobblestone Victoria Road.

Jenny Colgan, bestselling author of MIDNIGHT AT THE CHRISTMAS BOOKSHOP and numerous other novels, is a truly gifted writer and I am so impressed by this entrancing and charming romance. What I found particularly captivating is the unfolding of an unusual romantic alliance. I found myself waiting with almost as much anticipation as Carmen does for true love to move past a few quick kisses and handholding in the Scottish cold winter.

Colgan is a well-grounded writer and she lovingly and humorously describes all the details of the tight-knit community on the Royal Mile around the old bookstore. I particularly enjoy how Colgan affectionately describes Β Carmen’s family life as well as her work life in the bookshop as she seeks to add more modern features to hopefully improve sales for her boss, the intriguing Mr. McCredie.

Colgan is the author of several other humorous romance novels and I look forward to reading them, now that I have discovered how delightful and engaging her novels are. I don’t want to give away more of the story, however, I can affirm that readers who love romance stories will love this captivating novel and its special Christmas setting! Β

So, get your copy and spirit yourself away to a bonnie winter Scotland to find out just what happens to Carmen’s love life!

SUMMARY

Your most delightful holiday read: the sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller The Christmas Bookshop, from beloved Scottish author Jenny Colgan.

Christmas comes early—far too early—to McCredie’s little Old Town bookshop in Edinburgh. It’s summer, but an American production company has decided that McCredie’s is the perfect location to film a very cheesy Christmas movie. After all, who can resist the charmingly narrow historic street with its Victorian grey stone buildings and warmly lit shop windows?

Carmen Hogan, the bookshop’s manager, is amused and a bit horrified by the goings-on, but the money the studio is paying is too good to pass up. She uses the little windfall from filming to create new displays and fend off a buyout offer from an obnoxious millionaire who wants to turn McCredie’s into a souvenir shop selling kilts made in China and plastic Nessies. Still reeling slightly from a breakup, Carmen’s not particularly looking forward to the holidays. But just as snow begins to fall and the lights of Christmas blink on, all sorts of lovely new possibilities present themselves…for McCredie’s bookstore, and for Carmen herself.
