The Loner

Small Town | Romance

It is an addiction of the best kind. Diana Palmer has been at the top of my most often-read authors for decades and her newest book THE LONER is a prime example of why that is. I started reading Diana Palmer books when they were published under Susan Kyle. Her style is so satisfying and as I said earlier addictive.

Families, traditions, tough but vulnerable guys, and intelligent, driven women who give the impression of being shy but fiercely love their men.

THE LONER centers on Stacia with a longtime crush on her neighbor’s son Tanner. Her attraction isn’t successfully hidden. Tanner’s family is deeply involved in ranching. Tanner isn’t connected to anything really except having a good time, traveling, and, noncommitted relationships with society-type women. The opposite of hometown girl Stacia.

The usual tug of war with emotions and reality abides here. These two are forced into a situation neither would have agreed to, but then wind up following their own paths. Stacia spent years honing her talent as an artist. Tanner was off to who knows where in search of madmen.

Adding to this mix is an assortment of fabulous characters. A mafia-type boss, an opera singer, a crooked politician, and the list goes on. In true Diana Palmer fashion, she finds a way to make all these characters work together and mesh into a somewhat cohesive group. It's hard to choose a favorite but I have to say Tony, of the mafia boss category, made me smile a lot. The tougher they are the harder they fall. And we are treated to quite a show.

Many characters make an appearance from past books by this amazing, prolific author. Reminds us just how many tales there have been in Diana Palmer collection. Always entertaining. Always a joy. THE LONER is fated to make many new Diana Palmer fans.

SUMMARY

Tanner Everett spends most of his time jet-setting around the world. But that hasn’t stopped innocent Stasie Bolton, the daughter of a neighboring rancher, from falling head-over-heels for the jet-setting playboy. So Stasie is secretly thrilled when both her father proposes linking the properties in matrimony…which means Tanner will be hers, for good.

Despite his globetrotting ways, Tanner can’t help but be enthralled by the quiet girl next door. But as the embers between the two are fanned into flames, Tanner wonders if he’s found forever in the last place he ever expected.
