In one word, the Bennet family is ideal - with a wonderful and supportive father, a dedicated mother who is devoted to her husband and two children, a feisty daughter, and a thoughtful son. However, when a freakish event happens, the remaining Bennets are forced into a witness protection program, and it is there that their trust and marriage will be shattered. It is there they will be tested, especially when their disappearances will cause more questions than answers. Can the Bennet family survive this upheaval, or will the tests be too much for their family?
I have never read thrillers or stories that deal with witness protection program, so this was my first one. One of the parts I enjoyed most while reading WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BENNETS by Lisa Scottoline is how ordinary being in a program was. I was surprised to learn that it's rare for families to enter witness protection, and some parts were also remarkable, especially as it relates to grief.
Unlike her previous novel that I reviewed, AFTER ANNA, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BENNETS by Lisa Scottoline takes the reader on a more winding journey and is more psychological in nature rather than action packed. There aren't surprises to make one's mouth drop, nor are there sordid secrets waiting to be dug up. Instead, the focus is on family - their survival and grief during these tumultuous times. If you are seeking a novel that focuses on family relationships and grief as well as talking about the witness protection program and its protocol, then WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BENNETS by Lisa Scottoline should be the right book to indulge in.
