Zac Evans, as interim sheriff, hoped that life in Pike, Wisconsin would be a quiet place to live but several things go wrong quickly. First, he finds the body of Jude Henley, shot dead, on top of the grave he was supposed to be buried in. Second, he meets up with his ex - Rachel Fisher, who is working a cold case that Henley's name came up in. Suddenly the quiet life he sought has become UNSTABLE - like the killer they are now chasing. Are they looking for a serial killer, his apprentice or could it be just a copycat? When the evidence piles up, he and Rachel must race to try to end a killing spree before more women die and before she becomes a target.
UNSTABLE is a "hold on to your seat" read. It starts out with a mystery (a 28-year-old truck on the street with the motor running) then turns towards a mysterious life well-hidden but also in plain view. The romance between Zac and Rachel is a second-chance one. Itt wasn't spelled out in so many words what went wrong in the first place, except that they were both too young and maybe headstrong.
UNSTABLE is a fascinating look into the life of a small-town sheriff, painful pasts with actions that today would not be tolerated at all, and families that need counseling to heal from the things that life unfairly hands them. Rachel's little brother died young, and no one was allowed to speak about him as the survivors felt they were somehow to blame. This is one of the things that lead Rachel to her determination to be a cop and then into cold cases. She wanted to be able to give people answers. Zac came home to help his mother after his father died and the dairy farmers were hit with financial crunches. He never planned to be a dairy farmer but knew what he had to do even if it ruined things with Rachel.
If you want a mystery - one that even if you play detective, you will most likely not solve before author Alexandra Ivy gives you the answer. A second chance romance - as this couple work together while renewing their attraction. A small town with characters that feels real and perhaps make you think of someone you know. Then I wholeheartedly suggest you get your hands on UNSTABLE - buckle in and enjoy.
A dead man in a cemetery isn’t news—unless he’s found on top of a grave, with a bullet through his head. The body belongs to Jude Henley, who was supposed to be buried below. Instead, the grave contains the remains of Staci Gale, thought to have run away nearly three decades ago. Then an old VCR tape arrives at the sheriff station, showing Staci before her death—bound and terrified—with a note, claiming to be from the killer’s apprentice . . .
