Avalon Morgan is an actress in the creepiest role so far in her career. She plays the victim of a vampire king, filming on a small island offshore of New Orleans. The back drop is perfect as the mansion's past owner had died and the heirs, all cousins, want only to sell and be done with THE FORBIDDEN place. The filming goes well until a real victim is found on the island in much the same way as Avalon had been filmed earlier. Production is shut down while the police investigate the crime.
Grayson Avery is the lead investigator and does his best and there is little evidence that the woman's death had anything to do with the film. He can't figure out if it was just random or part of an eerier plot. Avalon does some investigating and finds a dark site on the web where it seems killers post their confessions and one is so like this death. But the site vanishes and no one but Gray believes her. They have only each other to trust as the evidence seems to touch on a number of the crew members.
THE FORBIDDEN is one of the most twisted Krewe of Hunters to date. The characters will fool you into believing one thing when something else is the truth in this well written, devious, plot twisted read. New Orleans lends the perfect atmosphere for this type of mystery, paranormal story line with its own past of fame, horrors, and all night partying.
THE FORBIDDEN's mystery is perfectly mapped, the characters are amazing and diverse (including the ghostly helpers) and the romance between Avalon and Grey has just the right amount of steam and sweet. I have to admit that this is one of the few that I, as an avid amateur sleuth (only in reading), did not even guess the outcome. It came out of left field and blew me away as I know it will all fans of author Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunter series.
