Just knowing HOLIDAY WISHES is part of the Heartbreaker Bay series is enough to make it part of my must read list. Actually anything by Jill Shalvis winds up on that last. HOLIDAY WISHES is a novella so you know it will be short and sweet, emphasis on sweet since it is by Jill Shalvis. Sean O'Riley best man for older brother Finn and soon to be sister-in-law Pru. Destination a beautiful B&B in Napa Valley with a van filled with friends. Ah, a B&B whose innkeeper is one Charlotte Hartford, a name and face from Sean's past. Lotti and Sean shared a sweet albeit not so innocent moment while teenager in high school.
Lotti had definitely been the one that got away or to be more accurate, the one Sean let get away. Even though he really did like her he let her letters and calls go unanswered until finally they just ceased. A rookie mistake, but let's remember he was a teenage boy. It is now obvious that Lotti had not forgotten Sean or forgiven his very awkward end to their friendship.
Needless to say best laid plans were upstaged by Mother Nature and everyone was being waylaid at the B&B. That meant Lotti misses her planned vacation. Finn and Pru's wedding plans had to be revised. And Lotti and Sean were going to have to spend time together even though she was doing her best to keep her distance. Hard to do in a small intimate B&B.
Good setting for romance even if the two were least likely to ever get over their clumsy ill-timed teenage non- relationship beginning. So much time has passed perhaps it was fate that would give them a chance to see if there had really been anything more than friendship.
The Finn wedding party is officially flying by the seats of their collective pants. All original plans have been dealt a losing hand compliments of mudslides and road closures. But Sean is not going to let anything come between his brother and Pru. Finn has spent years taking responsibility and its Sean's turn to pick up the slack. With Lotti it just may turn out okay. With Lotti on board Sean may pull out a miracle and what better time for one. Finn and Pru need one. But then again so do Lotti and Sean. It's time to finish what they barely started a decade ago and Christmas is the time for glad tidings and love.
Beautiful little story about holiday love and magic written with care by Jill Shalvis. Just the right amount of heart and soul which fits the recipe for a romance that needs a bit of spice.
