Born to a family of firefighters, Anne Ashburn has fought her way into the men's world but a disastrous mistake during a warehouse fire changes her life forever. Unable to leave the fire world, she remakes herself into an investigator. Her troubled past, family legacy, a bad boy lover, Danny McGuire and chasing a deadly killer have CONSUMED her life.
CONSUMED will do just that from the first word to the last -- consume your every thought, every moment and when it does end, you will want more.
I have been a fan of author J.R. Ward's Black Dagger series but this is the first I have read of her contemporary lines and may I say -- Wow! There is a lot of emotional, head games happening in this book on many levels, by many people. I don't normally care for what might be thought of as over emotional storylines but this one is one that just grabs you and holds you in the palm of its hand and makes you keep reading. That, the first book in Ward's Firefighters series is full of action, focused on the life of firefighters, their world and the danger they live with. Add in an arsonist and you up the ante of danger.
Anne was born into a family of firefighters, struggling to please her father, who ends up not to be who she thought he was. Add into the mix her lover Danny, a bad boy but good man to have at your back during a firefight. The warehouse tragedy leaves them both feeling guilty and he endangers his health and the job he loves because of it. As they finally begin to work out their relationship again, other troubles and dangers conspire against them, as well as threaten Anne's life. If you can't trust those you thought of as brothers who can you trust?
If you love firefighters, action, romance, danger, intrigue, and a sweet, steamy, stormy romance then you really need to get CONSUMED.
