"The shifter who almost wasn't"

Romance Paranormal | Romance Military

The Dallas SWAT team had gathered at a dinner to honor some of its members when the scent of a female shifter distracts Max Lowry, but there's something unusual about her smell. Max goes looking for her, starts talking to her, and she is as nice as she is pretty; they hit it off right away. Max actually likes the idea of a true soul mate; is she the one? But either Lana doesn't want to acknowledge that she is a shifter, or she doesn't know? The biggest problem though is that Lana Mason's father is the Chief Deputy of the Dallas PD, and he hates Max's guts!

Max and Lana are so cute together, it's a sin! They talk, they date, they don't jump each other's bones upon meeting; they act like any normal couple! Max and Lana also have terrific backstories, and although Ms. Tyler dwells quite a bit on their pasts and their falling in love, I didn't mind one bit because theirs is such a sweet romance, and it felt genuine all the way. On the other hand, an important part of WOLF HUNGER focuses on a case of domestic violence, which is relevant to Max but has very little to do with our paranormal SWAT shifters. While I realize that domestic abuse is a serious societal problem, and should be addressed, I'm not quite sure it should have taken so many pages of this novel. However, the issue is handled extremely well by Paige Tyler, and I believe it will help readers who might deal with such traumatic situations.

The first half of WOLF HUNGER is paced slower, and the author sprinkles hints at the danger to come, as Max and Lana get cozy. I also loved the creative way Ms. Tyler dealt with Lana's shifter issues, most unusual and fascinating. Things really get going in the second half, where we are treated to some spectacular action scenes and disturbing methods used by the dreaded shifter hunters who have upped the ante. The dialogues are excellent, and the writing is so smooth, and I think those are the main reasons why WOLF HUNGER is such an easy, pleasurable read, in spite of some ugly stuff. We still don't know precisely from where the menace originates, but we now have a very solid clue, and it will not be pretty! I cannot wait to see what happens next!

SUMMARY

SHE'S ALL THE WOLF HE'LL EVER NEED...

When SWAT Officer Max Lowry meets Lana Mason, he falls fast and hard. He's positive she's The One. And Max's favorite part? Lana's a wolf shifter too, so they can skip the awkward reveal and head straight to the happily ever after. There's just one problem: Lana doesn't know that she's a werewolf.

To make matters worse, hunters with intent to kill have tracked Lana to Dallas. Max has to figure out how to keep Lana safe, show her who and what she really is―and just how much she means to him.
