Katherine Garbera tackles the tough topic of returning vets in HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY. The vets come home and are treated as heroes, as they should be, but what these brave men and women really need is to be accepted and welcomed back home. In HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY Garbera beautifully illustrates how some of these disastrous injuries can be tackled and with the help of medical science and guts these vets can regain most of their independence and confidence.
Lane Scott and Felicity Danvers each grew up in small town Marietta Montana. Went to school together and had candidly known each other and their respective families forever it seemed. The Scott brothers are a tight group of wonderful guys who love their parents. Losing their mother had left a permanent whole in their lives. Felicity had a close relationship with her own sibling, her sister, and now that their father was gone the two sisters had sort of closed ranks to help their mother adjust to the loss of her beloved husband. Both families had to adjust to their new normal so to speak.
Lane had left Marietta, glad to get away from the small town - joined the service and suffered severe injuries when an IED exploded. Lane has been busy trying to adjust to what is now his new normal and has admirably adapted to the prosthesis' that replace his lower legs. Psychological issues will take longer to settle.
Both Lane and Felicity have had to face the fact that perfect is overrated. Felicity is her own worst enemy in many cases. She is so sure that relationships are for other people, not for her. Felicity sees herself through the eyes of others. What she needs to do is learn just how wonderful she truly is and that there are lots of people that love her, just the way she is.
You might say Lane and Felicity are perfect for one another. Each one has to learn that being perfect is highly overrated. Felicity shows Lane how love levels the field. She acknowledges Lanes injury but is willing and eager to reach beyond those to the man she has been attracted to for a very long time. It almost seems as if Lane has the biggest hurdle to deal with when getting through to Felicity and her insecurities.
Holiday time is a special time for most folks. It is a great time for new beginnings and both Lane and Felicity highly deserve the opportunity to reap the rewards of a new relationship between the two of them. Each is gun shy but anything worth having is worth the battle.
HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY is about taking risks, risks with your heart. Garbera has penned a lovely seasonal romance novel that reminds us of this miraculous season. HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY is about taking stock of what we are grateful for, plain and simple. HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY is a feel good tale about love and acceptance in an imperfect world.
