I enjoyed reading SILK STALKINGS, written by Diane Vallere.
It is the third book in
the Material
Witness Mystery series and has a load of
suspenseful events going
on that will keep you stitched in placed until you finish. I
love a book that can
have that affect without losing the reader. The characters
are likeable and some a
little mysterious in their own ways. This is great to have
in a series giving you
more room for interesting plots in the future.
Polyester Monroe came to live in San Ladrón, California to
reopen the
family textile shop that she now calls Material Girl. She
offers to help out with the
annual beauty pageant by having the young women pick fabric
from her shop for their dresses. Then she gets herself
tangled up solving the
murder mystery of the millionaire founder of the pageant,
Harvey Halliwell.
It turns out that maybe her friend Charlie might have some
relations to one of
the suspects.
The thing I love about mysteries is the twist at the end
that you do not see
coming. The ultimate surprise at the end! SILK STALKINGS
most certainly has that.
With all the different possibilities that I could come up
with in my head I did not
see what Diane Vallere had for the ending. At the end of the
novel Vallere also
leaves you with the directions to make you own garment bag!
Fabric shop owner Polyester Monroe can get tangled up in textiles, but it’s murder that really throws her for a loop in the latest mystery from the national bestselling author of Crushed Velvet. The time has come for San Ladrón, California’s annual Miss Tangorli beauty pageant, and Poly has agreed to use Material Girl’s inventory of shimmery silks to create embellished gowns fit for a crown. But when millionaire Harvey Halliwell—the man who revived the city’s citrus trade with his imported tangorli tree—is found dead days before the pageant contestants are announced, something sour takes over the town. To make matters worse, her friend, mechanic Charlie Brooks, is soon caught up in the crime, having been seen in the company of the case’s prime suspect. Now Poly’s on a mission to squeeze out the truth. But as she searches for a pattern, the killer seems intent on cutting up the evidence...
