BACKSTAGE PASS is Book 1 in Olivia Cunning's "Sinners on Tour" series. This is a book that challenges convention. Dr. Myrna Evans is not your typical groupie, but instead is an intelligent woman with a career and she is a few years older than the band she ends up traveling with. When fate lands Myrna and rock star Brian Sinclair at the same place at the same time, it's lust at first sight. In addition to all the many torrid trysts and emotional turmoil, there is also an element of danger when Myrna's stalker ex makes an appearance.
One of the things that I really enjoyed about BACKSTAGE PASS, is the occasional male/female role reversal in Brian and Myrna's relationship. Even though Brian may be the big bad rocker, it's often Myrna who calls the shots in their relationship and puts distance between herself and Brian. I like that Brian calls her on it without being a jerk. Myrna is a strong and confident woman normally, but her psycho abusive ex left her a little commitment phobic and cautious when it comes to letting her naturally lusty side have free reign. I love Brian's vulnerability and fearlessness when it comes to expressing his feelings to Myrna. Olivia Cunning does a great job of creating a group of characters who are flawed, but are more interesting as you get to know them better.
Readers should know that, depending of your perspective, there are a lot of wild sexual escapades that range from intimate and sensual to kinky in BACKSTAGE PASS. One or two of Brian's bandmates do participate, to different extents, in his sexual encounters with Myrna. While I don't normally read a lot of books with mΓ©nage scenes, I have to say that the scenes involving Brian, Myrna, and another member of the band are some of the sexiest and enjoyably well-executed sex scenes in BACKSTAGE PASS. While some of the racier sex scenes may not be every reader's cup of tea, the characters, friendships, and emotional connection between Myrna and Brian are worth giving this story a try.
BACKSTAGE PASS combines rock star decadence with relationship reality to equal a great story. Brian's bandmates are intriguing and I look forward to learning more about them. The relationship between Brian and his best buddy Trey is unusual and I like the sensitivity Olivia Cunning gave the relationship. BACKSTAGE PASS has some humor thrown in that balances out the erotica elements, as well as the gross bits that come along with a group of guys being cloistered together on the road. I look forward to the next "Sinners on Tour" book to find out what's in store for the other Sinners.
