Mystery

Delaney dream job has always been to anchor the evening news, and she stopped at nothing to get it. But even in her perfectly crafted life, she still has questions left unanswered. Particularly the identity of her birth parents, where they came from, and why they left her behind. Delaney lovers her adopted family but she she still has the need to know more about her past.

Betsy Grant loved her husband Tom more than anything. For the past eight years Tom's body and mind wasted away from Alzheimer Disease until one morning when he didn't wake up. His body just couldn't take it anymore, and while it destroyed Betsy she knew it was the right thing for her husband. However after the medical examiner gets involved, they find that Tom has a soft spot in the back of his head. Leading the police to believe that it wasn't the disease, but murder. Of course the first suspect is Betsy.

Delaney is covering the trail. As much as Delaney feels that Betsy is innocent, everything is pointing to Betsy. Tom is worth millions, and of course Betsy would get half of the estate. Tom also has a son Grant who would get the other half. But Grant's alibi is air tight.

While Delaney's friends are trying to find who her parents are, everything seems to be pointing in one direction for Betsy. Talk about torn in multiple directions.

It has been years since I read a Mary Higgins Clark book. Needless to say, this one did not disappoint. I have always loved the mystery to Mary Higgins Clark story lines. Mary Higgins Clark has taken three story lines and has combined them all into one without ever being too dense or confusing. I started this book and finished it in two days, which is exactly the kind of story I like. Of course, once I was finished, I wish that I had taken longer to read it.

I really like how this book keeps you guessing almost to the end when you can see how AS TIME GOES BY everything falls into place. Once again, I loved this book and can't wait to see what the next story line will bring.

SUMMARY

In this exciting thriller from Mary Higgins Clark, the #1 New York Times bestselling “Queen of Suspense,” a news reporter tries to find her birth mother just as she is assigned to cover the high-profile trial of a woman accused of murdering her wealthy husband.

Television journalist Delaney Wright is on the brink of stardom after she begins covering a sensational murder trial for the six p.m. news. She should be thrilled, yet her growing desire to locate her birth mother consumes her thoughts. When Delaney’s friends Alvirah Meehan and her husband Willy offer to look into the mystery surrounding her birth, they uncover a shocking secret they do not want to reveal.

On trial for murder is Betsy Grant, widow of a wealthy doctor who has been an Alzheimer’s victim for eight years. When her once-upon-a-time celebrity lawyer urges her to accept a plea bargain, Betsy refuses: she will go to trial to prove her innocence.

Betsy’s stepson, Alan Grant, bides his time nervously as the trial begins. His substantial inheritance hangs in the balance—his only means of making good on payments he owes his ex-wife, his children, and increasingly angry creditors.

As the trial unfolds, and the damning evidence against Betsy piles up, Delaney is convinced that Betsy is not guilty and frantically tries to prove her innocence. A true classic from Mary Higgins Clark, As Time Goes By is a thrilling read by a master of the genre.
