Maddy was so looking forward to her prom. Maddy had a
rough life. She lived in a rundown trailer with her
mother and her twin Marcus. Maddy always knew her
mother liked Marcus better than her. Marcus was a
football player and for some reason he always had money
even though he never worked. On the night of the prom,
Maddy had saved up enough money to buy her perfect dress.
What happened at the prom would be a night Maddy would
never forget. Her brother Marcus had offered her
up to his friends for money. When the most popular guy
in school asked her to dance, Molly was in heaven. What
followed Maddy would haunt her for a long time.
Marcus had received money for the football players to
look and touch Maddy. However, it went too far and Maddy
was raped by several of them. When Maddy woke up, she
knew she had to not only get away from the prom but also
from this town. On the way out of town a tragic
accident happened, or so she thought.
Now forward twenty years, Maddy has now become Molly.
Molly has everything a woman could ask for. However, no
woman would really want this life. Molly married Tanner who is
a very successful dentist, but he is always telling
Molly how to dress and act. Molly met Tanner when she
was waiting tables and he offered her a job taking
care of his twin sons. His first wife had died
falling down the steps. Or did she? Molly and
Tanner had one child together, Kristen. She was the only
thing that kept Molly going as the twins as they got
older treated her just as their father did.
One night Molly finally had enough, after Tanner beat her
again. Molly also had received a phone call that
brought back all the old memories from prom night. While
on the run Molly knew she had to confront her past, knowing
there was NO SAFE SECRET.
I have always loved Fern Michaels' books, from her
Sisterhood series to her stand-alone novels,
I find myself replacing the many characters and putting
myself in the story line. Fern Michaels takes a story
line and makes you feel like this could happen to you.
She writes stories that can and will happen in
today's world. NO SAFE SECRET talks about abuse and rape,
but Ms. Michaels shows how someone can overcome their past.
I would love to see a sequel to this book. Molly has
started a new life with a new man. Would love to see
how this turned out for her.
In her powerful new novel, #1 New York Times bestselling
author Fern Michaels weaves a story of betrayal, courage,
and starting over…
From her silver Mercedes to her designer kitchen, Molly's
life is gleaming and beautiful--at least on the surface.
Married to Tanner, a top cosmetic dentist, she has a
wonderful daughter finishing high school and twin stepsons
from Tanner's first marriage. No one in her exclusive
neighborhood in Goldenhills, Massachusetts, knows what
living with the demanding Tanner is really like. They know
even less about the life she left behind in Florida almost
two decades ago.
Back then, Molly was Maddy Carmichael, living with her twin
brother and neglectful mother in a run-down trailer park
amid the orange groves of Florida. After the terrible events
of her high school prom night--and the act of vengeance that
followed--she fled north and reinvented herself. But the
veneer of Molly's polished existence is finally cracking.
As secrets old and new are revealed, Molly must face painful
truths and the choices she made in their wake--and find the
strength to become the woman she once hoped to be.
