I guess you could say I've been a fan of Linda Howard for almost two decades. MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN originally published in 1989 was my introduction to Linda Howard and quickly put her on my must read list. This version is the 3rd or 4th edition and of course is now available as an eBook. MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN was the first in the Mackenzie Family series. I can honestly say I've read the entire series and consider this family as fondly remembered friends. So if you missed the original print of this lovely series here is another chance.

As soon as you start MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN you are introduced to two of the most memorable characters Mary and Wolf. Mary has come to the very small town of Ruth to teach high school students. She is the quintessential old maid, frumpy school teacher. Smart as a whip except when it comes to fashion. She knows she looks the part and for the mostly just doesn't care anymore. Mary wants to teach and get to know her new students and hopefully build a life for herself in Ruth.

Wolf and his son Joe also live in Ruth. Their ranch is on Mackenzie's Mountain. They are Mackenzies. Wolf is part Comanche and part Celt. Due to his mixed race he is commonly referred to as a breed. Insulting for sure— done purposely by those looking down their now on people like him. Wolf and Joe have a difficult time; the people of Ruth are anything but inclusive. They have historically blamed Wolf for every crime committed in their little town. Of course none of the charges stick, but it's tough to remove the stigma.

Mary seems to be the first white person to actually see Wolf and Joe as more, and much to her surprise, it seems Mary has definitely caught Wolf's eye.

MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN is a love story, but even more it's a story about getting past racial barriers and prejudices. Fear and misunderstanding have some terrible consequences. Funny how little changes over time. Linda Howard's work is timeless. Reading MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN again was an absolute pleasure. Linda Howard has penned a wonderful series with the Mackenzie Family that is worth reading over and over. In MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN there is just enough historical references to satisfy fans of historical romance, but there's no denying this is a wondrous romantic tale.

Linda Howard is my absolute favorite author. This started the Mckenzie Legacy
and, well, you will believe there is someone out there for everyone. She reels you
in and do you ever wish you were the girl getting these guys. READ her books.
All of them. They are all keepers.
