Romance Historical

When wealthy Jamaican plantation owner Harry Carstairs goes missing everyone wants to know where he is. Lady Celeste Rosington's fiancée, Raphael, wants to keep Harry alive and he pushes Celeste to charm Lord Peregrine for answers. This throws Celeste into the company of dangerous Lady Busselton who wants to keep Harry quiet. Celeste and Peregrine start to fall in love but will all the secrets be too much to overcome?

WICKED WAGER by Beverley Eikli is a charming romance with great characters and many intriguing secrets. Celeste is a sweet, innocent heroine who is innovative and resourceful. Readers will enjoy her spirit right from the beginning. Lord Peregrine is witty, delightful, and handsome; everything a romance hero should be. His character growth will make him relatable to readers. The intriguing secrets will have readers wondering who the real bad guy is, and the many different personalities will have readers guessing everyone's true motives.

There is more banter than romance between Celeste and Lord Peregrine but it is engaging and well written. The romance that does happen between the two does not disappoint and is steamy and tension filled. Eikli includes a bit of excitement and danger into WICKED WAGER, creating a story readers won't be able to put down.

SUMMARY

A dissolute rake, a virtuous lady, a ruthless society beauty and a missing plantation owner with secrets — just another day in Georgian England…

1780

Wealthy Jamaican plantation owner Harry Carstairs has disappeared — and everyone wants to know where he is…

Celeste Rosington knows her place in society, and while she may not be overjoyed at her upcoming wedding to her detached cousin Raphael, she nonetheless hopes the marriage will be successful. When Raphael asks her for her help to save Harry, she agrees. But her decision costs her more than she knows…

Celeste’s clandestine visit to Harry’s home is witnessed, and her connection to Harry misconstrued. Harry’s secrets put Celeste into more danger than even Raphael understands, and throws her into the path of the ruthless, cunning, beautiful Lady Busselton and the dissolute, dangerous Lord Peregrine.

Raphael is invested in keeping Harry alive. Lady Busselton is invested in keeping him quiet. Lord Peregrine is invested in anything that staves off boredom. And Celeste is becoming increasingly invested in Lord Peregrine. After all, what resistance does an innocent young woman have against something so deliciously wicked?
