Jamie Winters is used to the outrageous in her job as a legal secretary for the firm of Parker, Dennis. After all, some of the cases the law firm handles border on the ridiculous. Psychic reader Dorcas Beeber's case, however, pushes that edge just a bit further. Unfortunately, Jamie finds herself smack in the middle of a murder investigation after the psychic is found dead. Jamie and her boyfriend's niece, Maizy, will have to team up if they are to stop Jamie from remaining the prime suspect.
MOTION FOR MALICE is the second book in the Jamie Winters mystery series but can easily be read as a standalone story. The murder weapon has to be one of the most unique ones I've ever seen as Kelly Rey takes full advantage of having a psychic as her murder victim. I couldn't help but laugh just a little at the ingenuity.
I love Jamie's character and Maizy is quite a treat. I have to admit that having a teenager as a sidekick (and sometimes even the brains behind their capers) took a bit of adjustment. There were times I wanted to remind Jamie that she was the adult. Overall, however, I like Maizy and her character - perhaps even more so than Jamie - so I started to overlook the age difference.
MOTION FOR MALICE is a fun, slightly wacky cozy mystery that is pure entertainment. I love how Kelly Rey takes the ridiculous and makes it seem plausible; the scene with Elmer had me laughing 'til I cried! If you are looking for something quirky and laugh out loud funny, then look no further than MOTION FOR MALICE!
