I've never met a Jill Shalvis book that I didn't love and ALL I WANT is no exception. Jill Shalvis continues to win accolades and respect from many of her fellow authors and it is all well deserved. ALL I WANT is the seventh book in the Animal Magnetism series. As you can guess, this series has its share of the four legged variety of characters but the animal magnetism is palatable between the two legged main stars of ALL I WANT. Everyone seems to get to a point when they realize their life is missing something or someone important. ALL I WANT is a truly successful tale of looking for that elusive someone -- perhaps even if the person isn't aware that they are looking.
In ALL I WANT we meet two people who have very demanding jobs. Jobs that haven't left too much down time -- and you need that to actively search for that special someone. Zoe Stone is a pilot for a company that hires its planes for short-range local flights. For many years Zoe had spent a great deal of time and energy watching over a younger brother and sister. The siblings are now doing well on their own and Zoe is determined to give herself a chance to explore her options. That meant leaving her comfort zone and actually going on blind dates. Only Zoe isn't exactly meeting the man of her dreams -- in fact, so far -- she is batting zero.
But then Parker winds up at Zoe's door -- case of mistaken identity -- Zoe greets Parker rather profusely thinking he is her latest blind date. Oops. Parker is a friend of Zoe's brother Wyatt and has come to stay at her house to recuperate from injuries incurred on his job. Parker's job is high security and high danger. He investigates the real bad guys and then gallantly works to trap them. His last case left one agent dead and Parker with some physical issues that require time off.
Problem is, Parker doesn't understand the concept of time off. He is also used to being in control. Parker and Zoe have that in common. But that seems to be the only thing that they share with one big exception -- a blazingly hot attraction for each other.
The pages practically smoke every time these two are together. And in true Shalvis style, these characters become very real. Great dialog. Soft and tender moments that make you wish for a happy ending for two people who are so right for each other.
ALL I WANT is a story of awakening to possibilities. It's about taking a chance on a relationship even knowing it's a very long shot. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Zoe is looking for her Mr. Right. Parker isn't even close to what she is looking for. If you are looking for a great read, ALL I WANT is exactly what you are looking for.
Still holding one of the kittens, he leaned over and
kissed Oreo right on the tip of his nose.
Oh, for Godβs sake, Zoe thought. How the hell was she
supposed to keep her heart safe when he was nice to her
silly dog and he saved kittens and he fixed the things in
her house that were broken while pretending not to in
order to save her own damn pride?
He sat there, rumpled from sleep, like maybe he, too, had
just rolled out of bed, seeming very comfortable in her
kitchen.
Like maybe he belonged there.
And then there was the fact that all he had on was a pair
of sweats, dangerously low slung and showing off his abs
and those sexy cut muscles on his lean hips, the ones
that made women stupid with lust. . . .
And never mind his eyes and how they seemed to heat when
he looked at her. Sheβd never experienced anything like
it, really. Sheβd enjoyed the men sheβd been with and
knew theyβd enjoyed her back, but not a single one of
them had even looked at her like Parker did. βYou knew
what I meant regarding the no-animals thing,β she said.
βYou keep breaking the rules on purpose.β
He smiled a little to himself at that and gently set the
kittens on the floor, where they immediately cuddled up
to Oreo.
Then he stood up and stepped into Zoe. βNot true. You
only had two rules, the other one being no overnight
guests. Havenβt broken that one.β
She took a step back and found herself up against the
counter.
He set hands on the tile on either side of her hips and
dipped a little to look into her eyes. βYouβve got a lot
of rules.β
βFor good reason,β she managed, trying not to stare at
his mouth and failing miserably. His lips were somehow
both firm and soft, and he always tasted good. So yeah .
. .
At her scrutiny, those sexy lips curved. βI bet you have
all sorts of rules in bed, too,β he said.
She had no idea how in the world he managed it, but with
him she always felt a whole lot aroused and just a little
bit pissy at the same time. It was a special talent of
his.
βYeah,β he said, sounding amused and not at all
surprised. βYou do. You have rules in bed.β
βI donβt.β She hesitated. βWell, maybe a few,β she
admitted. Hey, it was just common sense to have rules.
He laughed softly, the sound sliding through her belly
and heading directly south. Dammit.
βMaybe thatβs why your dates arenβt working out,β he
said.
βMy dates are working out just fine, thank you.β
βYeah?β he asked. βDid you get laid last night?β?
She squirmed. Joe had made it clear that sex was
absolutely on the table and up for discussion. Sheβd made
it just as clear that it wasnβt going to happen.
But she did want to be with someone. She wanted that
quite badly. Just not with Joe.
Parker grinned. βI rest my case.β
βHey,β she said. βI could have . . . with Joe. If Iβd
wanted to.β But the amused doubt on Parkerβs face really
did her in. βI could call him back right now even,β she
said.
He slid his gaze over the blanket she had wrapped around
herselfβThe Little Mermaidβand smirked.
βWell, I wouldnβt be in this blanket,β she said. βIβd
change. And not into the bingo dress, either. Iβm
retiring the bingo dress.β
βWhat have you got instead?β
βPlenty,β she reported. βI have a little black dress, for
one.β
βYeah,β he said. βThat and some fuck-me pumps would do
it. Youβve got great legs.β
She did her best not to flush with pleasure because she
did not care one bit that he liked her legs. Correction:
She didnβt want to care. βItβs not all about physical
attraction,β she said.
βNo kidding,β he said with a self-deprecating laugh as he
looked her over again.
She narrowed her eyes. βAnd whatβs that supposed to
mean?β
βBabe, youβre covered in that blanket from head to toe,
and I bet beneath it your pjβs are flannel and baggy.
That should be a turnoff but Iβm not even close to being
turned off.β
She stopped breathing. βYouβre not?β
βNope.β He lowered his head so that his breath warmed her
neck. He stayed still for a beat, ratcheting up the
anticipation within her so tight that when he finally
spoke, just the brush of his lips moving against her
throat made her damp.
βBack to your bedroom rules,β he murmured.
She huffed out a laugh that sounded nervous even to her
own ears. Probably because she suddenly was.
And unbalanced.?So very, very unbalanced.?
To try to ground herself she leaned into his solid chest.
βTell me one,β he said, those lips of his still ghosting
over her throat with each syllable. βSlowly and in great
detail.β
She stopped a helpless moan from escaping. βNo.β?
He rubbed his jaw to hers like he was a cat, a big, sleek
cat. βWant me to guess?β he asked.?
She meant to give him a shove, but her hands were still
entangled in her blanket. βYou donβt know me well enough
to guess.β
βYou donβt want anything too intense,β he said, ignoring
that. βGet in, get out, and if you get an orgasm out of
it, you consider yourself lucky.β
Sheβd be totally insulted if his words werenβt deadly
accurate. βIβm not that uptight,β she said.
He gave a soft, sexy laugh.
βYou were wrong when you said I had the smart mouth,β she
said. βYouβre the one with a smart mouth.β
βMaybe kissing it would help contain the sarcasm,β he
suggested, and this time his mouth was at her ear,
drawing a shudder out of her. Somehow her hands had
separated from her brain and dropped the blanket.
He looked down at her tiny boxer shorts and thin white
cami.
βI stand corrected,β he said roughly.
Smug, and also unbearably aroused, her hands slid down
his chest.
And then back up.
Unable to handle the onslaught of all the emotionsβ
hunger, desire, need, and a yearning that weakened her
kneesβshe couldnβt hold back her moan this time.
βYouβre sweet,β he murmured.?
βNo, Iβmββ?
βShh,β he said, and kissed her just beneath her ear.
βYouβre also fierce,β he went on. βLoyal. Tough . . .β?
She heard another moan. Still her.?Parker sucked her
earlobe into his mouth and then gently sank his teeth
into her and gave a little tug.?
She gasped and wouldβve slid to the floor if he hadnβt
lifted her to the counter. He did it casually, easily,
and then with a palm on each thigh, he pushed open her
legs.
And then he made himself at home between them.
βBut one thing youβre most definitely not,β he said, βis
uptight.β And then his mouth covered hers.
