The bigger they are the harder they fall. It's one of Diana Palmer's trademarks and as a longtime fan it's the element that draws you in and holds tight. Diana Palmer is a western romantic at heart and with INVINCIBLE she adds quite few lighthearted moments. Her heroes are ex-military men with intriguing backgrounds and an arsenal of physical weapons that far outdo even the nastiest gun or knife. It's not being armed that counts. It's knowing what to do with your strength that ultimately brings down the bad guys or gals. INVINCIBLE certainly has its share of bad guys who harbor resentment for anyone with power and yet covet that same power for themselves.
At the beginning of INVINCIBLE I started to think that this must be a reissue of an older Palmer book. Diana Palmer's books are so popular that they are often times back on the shelves. But I was wrong. I recognized Carlie Blair instantly and then when Carson Farwalker appeared I was certain this was a case of dΓ©jΓ vu. What I was remembering was the fact that these two people were introduced to us in a former story. It was like finding an old friend and now being treated to what they were up to now.
There afe a lot of residual problems left behind after most of the criminals had been caught or killed back several stories ago. Unanswered questions if you will. In INVINCIBLE Diana Palmer is going to help clear that up and hopefully bring resolve to so many unsolved cases. In the meantime we are treated to an ongoing tug and pull between Carlie and Carson. They are seemingly the most different people on earth. Carson is tough, independent to a fault and ferociously guarded about his freedom. Nothing and nobody will ever be able to tie this guy down. Carlie is just a good girl whose life has had its share of violent moments and yet she is able to see the beauty in her little world.
No denying that there is something about Carson that deeply touches Carlie. But she is an observer of people and knows nothing of any value can ever come from her feelings for this man who would strain at any leash. But Carson can't help but keep a watchful eye on Carlie. There is someone out there who has already tried to harm her and that danger is still very real. Carson has convinced himself he is just being a friend and guardian but that's not going to fool anyone.
Those who are diehard fans of Diana Palmer are going to truly enjoy following the story that INVINCIBLE tells about people who have been central to many that center around Jacobsville. As usual love is in the air but that doesn't mean a happy ever ending -- or does it. After all this is a vintage Diana Palmer story.
He's everything she fears...
and everything she wants
Mercenary by name and by nature, Carson is a Lakota Sioux
who stays to himself and never keeps women around long
enough for anything emotional to develop. But working with
his friend Cash Grier on a complex murder investigation
provides Carson with another kind of funβshocking Cash's
sweet-but-traditional secretary, Carlie Blair, with tales of
his latest conquests.
Then Carlie lands in deep trouble. She saw something she
shouldn't have, and now the face of a criminal is stored
permanently in her photographic memory-and Carlie is the key
piece of evidence that could implicate a popular politician
in the murder case.
Her only protection is Carsonβthe man she once despised. But
when she learns that Carson is more than just a tough guy,
Carlie realizes she's endangered herself further. Because
now her only chance to live means losing her heart to the
most dangerous kind of man.
