Emily Stevens has finally arrived at Belle Haven, an animal center run by Dr. Dell Connelly and his two brothers, Brady and Adam. This is one among her "list" of dreams towards her perfect life. Interning for a year will pay off her education to become a veterinarian. However, her first choice was in L.A. and not in the mountains of Sunshine, Idaho.
Much to her astonishment the handsome vet tending to an animal was none other than her first and only one-night stand, Dr. Wyatt Stone, whom she met at a vet conference in Reno. Karma is a real bitch and Emily just found that out. While both still find they burn to jump each other's body their visions of life are completely different. Emily wants to return to L.A. and Wyatt loves his life in Sunshine and could never consider being anywhere else nor ask any woman to give up her dream.
The cute, feisty, and sexy as hell tornado quickly has Wyatt off his axis. With Wyatt surrounded by his two sisters and Emily by her lesbian sister, life becomes complicated with their interference. Emily's world is soon filled with a potty mouth parrot, an injured turtle and rescued dog. Working side by side caring for pets and animals only serves to draw them closer together.
Unable to ask Emily to stay, she accepts an internship far away when it's offered to her as part of her "plan". A lost plea from Wyatt, written on a bar napkin, isn't going to do its job!
I loved this story of a group of people filled with love of animals, investing their lives in their 4-legged patients and their community. I have read other works by Jill Shalvis and found compassion, warmth and true emotion in each one. Stories involving the love of animals are always an enjoyable read. How can you go wrong with adorable animals and extremely hot heroes?
