Romance Contemporary

Taryn Crawford didn't want to move the Score PR firm to Fool's Gold, but she is outvoted by her three partners, all ex-jocks who had a friend here in town. She's a big city girl from Los Angeles and doesn't think she fits into a small town, especially one like Fool's Gold. Angel Whittaker has been in Fool's Gold about a year, working with CDS, a bodyguard school. He's an ex-special ops guy, and he's been watching Taryn, waiting for the right opportunity to get to know her. He sets his plan into motion when they accidentally meet in a local coffee shop. When Taryn receives a flower with a note to meet at the local winery, she knows it is from Angel. Neither of them is looking for "happily-ever-after," just a casual partnership that includes a lot of steamy sex. That works great for a while, until Taryn discovers that when she wasn't looking, she fell in love with Angel. Does Angel feel the same way, or will he get scared and run from what they have together? Susan Mallery delivers another poignant love story in her Fool's Gold series with WHEN WE MET. It's always a delight to revisit this unique town and catch up with old friends. Taryn and Angel are strong, independent and powerful characters. They are surrounded by a plethora of supporting characters with a diverse range of personalities, all of which bring a delightful, eclectic mix to the tale. The themes of helping others and giving back to your community are carried through the story, as in all of Ms. Mallery's Fool's Gold books. There are some hilarious moments, some tender ones and some very scary ones that carry the plot and themes along. This is a story about trust and letting go of your past. And if you're into fashion, there is lots of name-dropping in this one -- clothes, shoes and handbags!

SUMMARY

Angel Whittaker earned his scars the hard way, but the scars that can't be seen are the ones that haunt him the most. Since he moved to Fool's Gold, California, he's cobbled together a life for himself as a bodyguard trainer. If he's not exactly happy, at least his heart is safe. Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe-to-toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses. Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory
