No one can do series better than Nora Roberts. We all have
our favorites. Mine include the Born In trilogy and of
course the MacGregor clan series. Roberts is equally
comfortable in historical and/or contemporary romance. DARK
WITCH has a bit of both.
Nora Roberts just can't escape her Irish roots and we are
once again treated to folklore by the unabashed master. Let
me preface this to remind readers that long before witches
and vampires were in vogue Roberts had been treating her
readers to imaginative tales that had us laughing out loud
and
trembling in our boots depending on just how much Irish you
have in you. There are artists and then there are Artists
and there are few authors that can vividly paint a scene
where you feel like you are actually there. Kind of like
stepping into a Monet painting, but for Roberts drawn with
words.
In DARK WITCH we begin in the year 1263 and meet Sorcha and
her children. Their only protection is the strength of
Sorcha's magick and of course her love. Sorcha has used her
powers to heal but there is an evil force that knows no
bounds when it comes to joining ranks to do evil. Such is
the responsibility of powers.
When we arrive in the twenty first century we are met with
the descendants of Sorcha and her family. Finding the
parallel between the original children we met in 1263 and
their descendents is where great mystery and intrigue comes
into play. The meeting of these family members has taken a
very long time, kind of an extended voyage through time you
might say. But there is a good reason that this auspicious
meeting had to wait. When all things are where they must
and their stars align the forces will collate into an
amazing power. This power's fate is to do good but with
dark forces ascending the promise to focus on positive and
heal is going to come under great scrutiny.
Following the generations of this family of witches and
acknowledging the cousins' similarity to those that came
before is the crux of this wonderful tale. The Dark Witch
is the story of Iona Sheehan and her destined voyage to
Ireland to reconnect with the O'Dwyers her very distant
cousins. Branna, Connor and Iona are the chosen so to
speak. They have inherited the talents and powers of
Sorcha's children and unfortunately the attention of the
evil spirit that once was the black force determined to
join with Sorcha. Their union would have produced powers
beyond imagine.
Now that the three cousins are together there appears a
dangerous opening to the black force intent on their
demise. And Iona is unfortunately the weak link in their
determination to avoid these dangerous pitfalls. The
burning question is will the cousins have time to teach
Iona what she needs not only for her own survival but for
them all. If they fall evil wins and that is not an option.
DARK WITCH should come with a warning. By page 36 you are
hooked. The folklore is so intriguing that it could make
believers of nonbelievers. I have already put the next two
of this series on my must read list. There is a kind of
poetry to the writing in this Nora Roberts story and with
its lilt captures your imagination and finds a home in your
heart. As a Roberts fan I knew where she was going with
this amazing tale and felt blessed to be along for the
ride.
For the fans of Nora Roberts' series this one is fated to
be one of your favorites. It is written in the sun, moon
and stars as an amazingly entertaining mix of folklore and
modern day. This is one journey you won't want to miss.
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora
Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the
family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love…
With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving
devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she
learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling
lakes, and centuries-old legends.
Ireland.
County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and
magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny
awaits.
Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s
directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an
innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle
where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna
and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite
her into their home and their lives.
When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the
owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen,
he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big,
bold package.
Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and
live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head
over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient
evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be
defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and
for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…
OOOO! What a good review. It touches all the bases & entices the reader (me) to want to run right out to get the book. Nora Roberts lives up to her reputation of being a top notch writer! Can hardly wait to spend time in Ireland with all the people, mystery, intrigue, & (can I say) Roberts" romance! :) (Jean Merriott 12:26pm October 30, 2013)
