THE SILENCE OF WINTER by Wanda E. Brunstetter is book two in The Discovery Saga. There are six books in this series and each one is only 128 pages. This is the story of Luke and Meredith Stoltzfus. Luke is on a bus to his Uncle's in Indiana. He has gone there to learn a new trade as he has been laid off from his wood working job back in Pennsylvania. Meredith has just learned a life changing situation within herself and she can't wait for Luke to come home so she can tell him. She is patiently waiting for Luke to call her and let her know he made it to Indiana.
While Meredith is waiting for Luke to call her the local sheriff comes to see her to tell her a tragedy has occurred. Meredith is devastated. Why didn't she tell Luke the big secret she had to tell him before he left? Why didn't she fight harder to get him to stay? Why didn't he stay in Pennsylvania and try to find some other kind of job? I'm not telling anymore. You have to read the book if you want to find it what happens. You won't be sorry.
SILENCE IN WINTER starts off with such intensity.......a life altering event. You wonder how Meredith will survive. What will she do to get through it? She tries to go on, doing some painting in their house. While she is doing that an old friend stops by to see if she needs anything. He couldn't have arrived at a better time. Meredith is in medical distress and needs his help getting to a hospital. Oh no, what is going to happen to her? Will they make it to the hospital in time? Who is this old friend that stops by? Will this be the end of her old life and the beginning of a new one?
Wanda has always been a favorite Amish author of mine and this series just proves my point. I can't wait to start the third book, A Hope for Spring next. My heart is breaking for Meredith and poor Luke. Thankfully, Meredith is surrounded by family, both hers and Luke's, because she is going to need all the help she can get. THE SILENCE OF WINTER, like the first book, Goodbye to Yesterday, ends with a cliff hanger. It is a big one too!
In The Silence of Winter, part two of The
Discovery––A Lancaster County Saga, Meredith
anxiously waits to hear that Luke has arrived safely in
Indiana for a new job opportunity. . .but Luke's call never
comes. Instead, Meredith receives news that tears her heart
to shreds and leaves her just barely living—and only
for the sake of the little one growing within her. How will
Meredith ever go on without Luke?
