Gray Preston loves fast cars and has built Preston Racing from the ground up, not relying on his family's wealth or his father the senator. Gray believes his father is a selfish, narcissistic politician. When Evelyn Hill shows up to convince Gray to use his fan base to support his father's bid for Vice President of the United States and the subsequent election Gray doesn't hesitate to refuse.
Evelyn hasn't built a successful career in politics by taking no for an answer so she doesn't hesitate to call on Grays' mother, the one woman he can't refuse, to get him to change his mind. Before she knows it, Evelyn is traveling on the racing circuit with Gray and his team, looking for ways to benefit the campaign and possibly help Gray see his father as she sees him. As she gets to know him, she realizes there is more to Gray than she expected and the attraction between them grows steadily. Can they balance the demands of politics with the fast pace of the race track in order to have a future together?
ONE SWEET RIDE is an entertaining addition to the Play-by-Play series by Jaci Burton. Behind another drool-worthy cover, there is a romantic and sexy story of a man and woman finding their way to each other. Gray is struggling with his family issues while Evelyn is trying to come to terms with her political objectives while her attachment to Gray grows. Given the high-pressure nature of both politics and racing, I expected a more intense story. I thought the plot, while interesting, was a bit slow-paced for the settings in which it played out. Also, I must admit to missing glimpses into the lives of characters we've seen before. We introduced to Carolina and Drew, who will be featured in the next book in the series, Melting the Ice.
