Romance Suspense

The latest collaboration of bestselling authors and sisters, Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush, once again features the women of Siren's Song, or otherwise called The Colony. Matronly Catherine Rutledge is the woman who runs the lodge under an iron thumb. All of her nieces that live under the roof of Siren's Song wear only old fashioned, handmade dresses that they sew themselves, aren't allowed to go into town or associate with men. Catherine is the keeper of many secrets as well as the protector of her nieces. The problems begin when those secrets start to emerge. Detective Savannah "Savvy" Dunbar has a lot on her plate. Not only is she investigating a double murder but she's the surrogate carrying a baby for her sister, Kristina and her husband, Hale St. Cloud that she's about three weeks away from delivering. Her co-workers are treating her like a leper since she got pregnant and she's trying to tie up some loose ends before going on maternity leave. Catherine Rutledge is the last person she expects to see walk in the police station and the reason she's there isn't one that Savvy saw coming. Savvy presses on with her investigation even though she needs to be somewhere safe with her feet propped up. But she's getting answers and that's what is important to her even when it puts her in personal danger. She's got a baby to think about now, though, even though it's not technically her baby. So safety has to become a stronger factor. The problem is that it just might be too late for Savvy. SOMETHING WICKED captured me from the first page and held me in place until the final sentence. There are several plots going on at the same time but, eventually, they all link up to the same characters. Those various subplots played a huge part in keeping the interest flowing. I found that I hated leaving one subplot to move onto the next, but they were all riveting. It was definitely a page turner. The romance was a little weak but, since I love the mystery and murder parts of a book, I was perfectly fine with that. I've been a longtime fan of Nancy Bush as well as her equally excellent sister, Lisa Jackson. SOMETHING WICKED provides exactly the excitement old fans have come to expect and new ones will come to love. This is the third book written around The Colony and you will be allowed inside those ultra-private walls to discover more about the women living inside. You will quickly become addicted to the events in this book and will crave more after the final page. The good news is that there will be another Colony book coming out in 2014. Until then, you can hold onto SOMETHING WICKED to tide you over.

SUMMARY

You Sense Him Some refer to it as the Colony. To others, it's a cult. But few locals in the Oregon coastal hamlet of Deception Bay have ever been invited to the inner sanctum of Siren Song. Even the sisters who live here, far from strangers who might recoil at their unnerving psychic abilities, don't know all the terrors buried within its walls... You Fear Him Eight months into a surrogate pregnancy for her sister, Kristina, Detective Savannah Dunbar just wants to wrap up paperwork before taking medical leave. But her department's investigation into a brutal double homicide has suddenly become much more complex—and personal. And now there are disturbing rumors about the Colony, its matriarch, and a long history of bitter secrets... But You Can Never Stop Him Death has come to Siren Song before. But this time there will be no refuge and no remorse. For everything born in wickedness must die that way—and a killer will not rest until he has claimed them all...
