DEATH, DOOM AND DETENTION by Darynda Jones is a perfect
follow up book to Death and the Girl Next Door. DEATH, DOOM
AND DETENTION is action packed, intriguing and exciting.
Lorelei is trying to cope with the news that she will be
the last descendent of Arabeth and the prophet that is
going to stop the war. She feels this a lot to ask of a
16yr old Sophomore in high school to expect, but Lorelei
is handling everything the best she can for now. She has
refused to speak to her grandparents unless she has to. She
feels betrayed by them because they never told her of her
heritage until they could no longer keep it a secret, or
that her grandfather's church is more than just a church.
They have made available to her the writings and books
that her father came with when he married her mother. These
items are of some help, but she feels that everything is
still a puzzle and is frustrated that the writings do not
just come out and tell her what she needs to know or how to
stop the war.
Lorelei, and her group of friends are trying to sort
through everything they have learned in the past few days
and trying to figure out how to stop the inevitable war.
Brook is trying to help Lorelei get her visions back. But
Lorelei has not been exactly truthful to those friends
lately. She has let them believe that her visions are gone,
when that is the furthest thing from the truth. Lorelei
wants to sort out what she can do with the visions and how
she can make them appear before she lets anyone know.
There are several occurrences that she is more concerned
about then her visions. There seems to be more people after
her, Mr. Davis, The Sothern's new interest in her, the room
under the church that no supernatural can break out of, and
the new student who shows up after Jared's mysterious
disappearance. But most especially the disappearance of
Jared after the Friday night party in the woods. When he
does show back up he cannot tell them much about where he
has been are what has happened to him, but one thing they
all seem to notice is that the darkness in him is stronger
than the light.
Ms. Jones has a way of writing a story that keeps the
reader on the edge of their seat and anticipating what the
next page will reveal. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Jones
has in store for us in book 3, Death and the Girl He Loves.
In New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones's Death, Doom and Detention, the normal part of Lorelei MacAlister's life didn't just slip away quietly the day Jared Kovach came to town. Nope. The normal part of her life shattered. It exploded. It burst into a gazillion shards of fleeting light. It went out with a bang.
Goodbye normal.
Hello dark and eerie.
While her best friend, Brooklyn, is focusing all of her energy on helping Lorelei hone her abilities, Lorelei is dealing with the reality that Satan's second in command has taken up residence inside her body. Oh, and the fact that she has a crush on the Angel of Death. But what a beautiful death it is. If those weren't bad enough, something sinister has come to town and it wants nothing more than to hear Lorelei's dying breath as it strangles it out of her.
Thank goodness the gang has a supernatural champion. But what happens when the only being who can save them switches sides midstream? How can a group of misfits capture one of the most powerful beings ever created? And will they find out how to bring Jared back to them before it's too late?
