Mystery Woman Sleuth

Lily Ivory is a witch who runs a vintage clothing boutique in San Francisco. Part of Lily's magic allows her to pick up on vibrations from people and clothing. It's why she loves working with vintage clothing -- she can pick up a piece of clothing and get vibrations from the previous owner, pick up on happy memories of the dress. Lily's familiar is Oscar -- a potbellied pig. In his natural form, Oscar is a mix of a goblin and gargoyle.

Aidan Rhodes is a fellow witch in San Francisco. He and Lily work together occasionally and Aidan has been working with Lily on her magic. Sailor is an intense, darkly- brooding psychic that Lily works with to try to delve into some history while she is researching part of the case. He is unexpected and quite charming once she lets her guard down.

Lily has been asked to assist in investigating a string of poisonings in the San Francisco area witchcraft community. Through her charity work with her vintage clothing shop, she has gained the trust of the local covens, so she is able to question witches in different covens. The case is further complicated by a hate group that is operating in the area and attacking business that even hint at a connection to witchcraft. Lily soon suspects that a new acquaintance may not be as well-intentioned as she seems and might be dabbling in black-magic and deadly botany.

IN A WITCH'S WARDROBE is a fun, paranormal mystery with just a little bit of romance thrown in. Ms. Blackwell has created a wonderful cast of characters. I laughed out loud at some of the interactions between Lily and her familiar Oscar -- he is impertinent and hilarious. And Lily is so torn between Aidan and Sailor, until she finally kisses Sailor and realizes that they really might have something between them. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
