Finding her sister and only relative, Pamela, dead with slit wrists in the bathtub from an apparent suicide, Destiny Richardson, who works in the police crime lab, is devastated. Logan Cavanaugh is called in on the case. His father, Sean Cavanaugh, is Destiny's boss. The Cavanaugh's are his recently discovered family, learning Logan's father was switched at birth and mistakenly born a Cavelli. Devastated, Pamela knows her sister would not commit suicide which is finally confirmed when Sean arrives at the scene. Logan is able to receive the ok to let Destiny work the case as an investigator with him as his partner is on his honeymoon.

Her strength and commitment astounds him as they work continuously on the case uncovering important facts that lead to confirming the call as murder. Logan involves his uncle in helping with the reception following the funeral where Destiny soon learns the close ties of the huge family. Working together finally draws the two together in the most fulfilling sexual encounters either could imagine. Each lead brings them closer to the culprit and closer to an arrest. Although thrilled to obtain closure of the case, Destiny now believes Logan will be able to walk out of her life as she returns to her job in the crime lab.
